can we think of anybody else in this connection, other than MS Amma. I refer to the song "MAALAI POZHUDINILE MALAR POZHINILE'. Let me come to that later. In the early forties, when Iwas a of student of LITTLE FLOWER HIGH SCHOOL OF SALEM(though, irrelevant to the subject, i quote my school's name with great pride) a gramaphone record of MS amma's song under reference was released. it was such a tremendous hit that the records used to be sold out within an hour or two . rasikas had to register their names for the next supply. In the song about Lord Muruga, there is a line 'Velondrai kaiyilendhi vizhunguvan pol vizhithan. naalu puram nokki NAANI NAAN YARINGU VANDHADENDREN THE RENDERING OF THE WORD NAANI(SHYNESS AND TIMIDITY ABOUNDING) WILL LEAVE YOU SPELLBOUND. It is no exaggeration , what feeling a bharatanatyam exponent would have achieved with her eyes and face, MS amma got with her singing. the younger generation of rasikas who have not experienced the divine magic of this song, pl rush to hear the same. there are plenty of such singing with feeling SORRY I am not ablet to post a full translation of the song naani means becoming shy and coy gobilalitha
