The concert started with my fav varnam rendered briskly.N&Sfor the Kedaragowlai sung delectably.Sankarabharanam Alapanai was detailed and elaborate. So was the N.&S.
Charulatha Ramanujam is one of our best violinists. She excelled in Anandhabhairavi alapanai and gave able support.
Thani by Vid.P and BSP was appropriate.
On the whole,it was an entertaining concert .Needless to say, credit certainly goes to NADHASURABHI.

My stats prof was firm believer in the law of averages and held a major grudge against anyone who threatened to rubbish his pet theory...it used to be Sachin and Sampras those days...If he were into CM, I am sure he would'e heartily despise Vijay Siva as well - IMO, the most bankable senior artist around.
I probably missed the best part of the concert walking in just as some delectable swaras in Varali were being served up by Vijay Siva and Charulatha...but the Sankarabharanam alone was enough to justify the 300 odd rupees I spent in getting to the venue and back. A high pitched voice with a nasal twang does not sound like a great asset for a CM performer...but there is such remarkable clarity in Vijay Siva's delivery that the timbre really ceases to matter. I can't think of anyone else (at least not in CM) who can produce tara sthayi brigas of such immaculate precision.
I heard Charulatha for the first time and her brilliance on the violin was another gentle reminder that there is a world beyond Chennai as far as CM is concerned! Her sound production was very similar to the vocalist's - accurate and smooth like a hot knife through butter. I would venture to say that her response to Vijay Siva's Ananda Bhairavi was actually a shade better.
Taanam was just beginning to build up when Vijay Siva chose to launch the Pallavi. The neraval on Veda Shastra for Endukku Peddala was similarly cut short just when the tempo was heating up. Perhaps the artiste's avoidance of cathartic devices comes along with his culture of restraint but I feel it tends to take just that little bit away from the emotional import of his concerts.
The taalam was Misra Triputa, Chatushra Nadai - IIRC eduppu was 10 matras (or may be 6 but at half beat for sure). Some nice cross patterns in the Pallavi - apologies for not being able to furnish more details.Trikaalam was duly rendered but there were no nadai variations that I could notice. Appam, I am not 100% sure but I thought the first swaram was Hameer and not Saranga. Useni is correct although a little odd in an Ananda BHairavi RTP. Was great to listen to anyway.
The rhtyhm department was done in by the amplification - I can certainly vouch for the fact that BSP's strokes are far more vibrant than the audio system seemed to suggest. The artistes did well to adapt to the uncommon tala but there were very few nadai variations. Koraippu at idam was a treat and there was a single avartha korvai.
Among the noteworthy tukkadas were Cheliyene in Pharaz and Seeta Kalyanam in Kurinji. Looking forward to more from this fest! Thanks to Nadasurabhi for organizing it.

hi Vijay
Thank u very much for enlightening on the taalam of the Pallavi.I have to admit that my knowledge of laya is very limited.,almost nil. I fully realise that except that I enjoy thani, I am totally incompetent to comment.
I was not sure whether it was Saranga or Hamir, hence the error.
I left the venue after the virutham and hence did not know what tukkadas he rendered. Thanks for letting me know.
It just gives me immense pleasure to let people know what was rendered in the kutcheri that I go to.

I found both Tanam and the pallavi lines a bit fast. I prefer to listen to Anandabhairavi in a much lower speed. Also, as Vijay pointed out, alapana, tanam and pallavi were quite short for the build up.
Small addition to the list.
After the 'break'..

12 sIta kalyANa vaibhOgamE - kurinji - Thyagaraja
