There is no gainsaying the fact, that the short AGNAATHAVAASAM HAS ATLAST BEEN BROKEN FOR GOOD. Through the re-arrival of Cools'ji I am sure the forum is bound to get rejuvenated with his unflinching involvement and dedicated contributions I hope he would have completely
recovered from the recent trauma arising out of a minor accident he met with and is fastly recuperating Thank God !!!

Dear coolkarni
I certainly am not going to welcome you back :)
since you were never gone but was only taking a break. For many of us the 'vipralambha (no translation available in english!) was long and unbearable but like the proverbial cAtaka we awaited your arrival and God was merciful. Now let us continue from where you left off and those glorious anecdotes which are object-lessons to the youngsters should continue!
I recollect the return to life of King Bhoja after the encomium by kALidAsa.. and in that spirit

adya rasikA rasa pUritA sasya punar bhUtA mEdinI
paNDitA maNDitAscaiva kim nu coolkarni ''Forum' AgatE

( Today the rasikas are filled with 'rasa' and the earth is again turned green and the scholars are flocking and why not, since coolkarni has returned to our Forum !)

Hi folks,

I've been led to some of these discussions from web searches and so on, and have found the forum interesting. It is good to see an active forum on one of my recent interests - Carnatic music. Hope to gain from the interactions I have here and get a better appreciation of different aspects of this art and science!

Curiously the Return of Kulkarni sparks in my memory The Return of Sherlock Holmes following his 'death' in The Adventure of the Final Problem in which Arthur Conan Doyle wrapped up his love affair with the sleuth. But then the clamour from the Rasika crowd was too much for him to bear and Holmes/kulkarni returned gloriously and successfully to please the reading/listening public for many more years to come :) As a keen student of Doyle I am sure coolkarni will appreciate this analogy since on all counts it is the Rasikas who are the Winners!

Although some Holmes fans had complained that the 'Return' stories somehow didn't live up to the earlier standards set by Doyle - we can be sure that's not the case with Cool-ji :)

That is elementary my dear Watson :)
And indeed our 'Holmes' died on the encounter with the bad 'Professor Moriarty' and that is an exciting episode for the Rasikas only if he chooses to narrate :)

Chooses to narrate !!!
:o:o

I have no claims to knowledge like Moriarty (or Parriarty !!) and would not like reveal more than just to say I am a bit more like Dr Watson-
acutely alive when History is being made around me.
I prefer to ignore the kkara bites and thank my stars for the few moments of Glory , I have been blessed with.
Watch out for my piece on an afternoon with TRS (That Vidwan in a perpetual Musical reverie) or about my several one-on-one sessions with Lalgudi Jayraman .
Just yesterday I played a piece of his own recording to Lalgudi over phone for about 10 minutes- a piece of music he had thought was lost for ever , but actually was safe with me.
The sound of Lalgudi Jayaraman Chuckling across the line ,to his opening salvo of Hindolam in response to Amjad Ali khan at Kgs 1975 ,is the kind of experience that eggs me on.
His act of passing his hand over me as a blessing and pressing my DVD gifts to his eyes in a act of Prayer is a testimony to what a lifetime of association with finearts can do to ones personality.
I Thank Lord Almighty for the experience of hearing Lalgudi Jayaraman sing to me Echariga Ra Ra with some special change in the kalapramanam , follow it up a great ghazal of Mehdi Hasan in Jog, recount his experiences with GNB-MMI , three (his contemporary) artists who did not get the recognition they deserved and for whom his heart bled , his unalloyed summing up of Hindusthani Music..... and so much more.
All because of a short post by me titled "The Perfect 10' and some very simple hearted Souls like NSG, GJR and Vijayalakshmi...
So as you can see , I owe it all to rasikas.org, but the darker part of my experiences can remain with me.
and you cannot say that I have not given enough clues !
But let us not discuss that. The ones who can recognise the bad Professor can stop with an understanding smile.
As long as people across the spectrum here are convinced -like me - that the need of the hour is wider dissemination of knowledge -without an element of Self Glorification , I will be around to do my bit.
Thanks for Everything.
Sd..Watson

My dear Watson,

We will definitely be enthralled and honored if you take up the role of Holmes in his stead, and narrate to us the enthralling encounters with these masters :)...

Our rasika supreme would carry on sharing music and spreading good humor. Tis the season of goodwill and we can expect sackful of goodies and delectable anecdotes. Ninja, I would rather be a child in the candy shop rejoicing the arrival of Santa!

Dear coolkarni! That should say it all!
I noticed that the 'new coolkarni' is a totally new vamped design and not 'old wine in a new bottle'. The addition of new 'plug-ins' (in the form of a host of stellar performers both veterans and budding youngsters) bodes well for the avid groups of cmlovers flocking to rasikas.org. But I still hope the old 'sparks of fire' are still energetic and the 'body' is strong enough to withstand the 'mach 3' speed we wish to push in the new year :) Though this old horse cannot learn new tricks, yet the prospect of a new technology bringing us together in the cyberspace concurrently is exciting and rejuvinating. So as we soar with you to the tunes of divine CM let the banter continue for what is a community experience of CM without visulas and audio of the whispers of silken sAries and Rasika Banter:)

I second your views and look forward to your weaving them into a deliightful 'novel' with the craftiness of Sherazad :)

srkris...I thought this would be a good place as well to say "goodbye" to you and the other rasika friends. I am sick and tired of all the mudslings and other nonsense that is being thrown at people for no rhyme or reason. I am stepping out of this group. Thanks for every thing.

Any online (or even physical, I suppose) collection of people will have their ups and downs.

Given that an internet forum is a self-selecting group, perhaps much more so than one's encounters with selected people offline.

That's it: rough and smooth and all that; do please reconsider, you will be sadly missed.

Sam, I saw your post at the TNS Krishna thread before srkris cleaned them all out for good reasons. You got caught in the swirling current of the ongoing cross-thread discussion with elevated sensibilities. Please don't sweat it.

Sam,

There is no reason for people to get sick of anything. As Nick says, every group or community will have ups and downs. Its because of misunderstandings and lack of proper communication. People need not protest against the entire community for that by getting out of it.

I am sure good sense will eventually prevail.

Dear all,

I am a new member willing to learn. I ardent listener of carnatic music ( and also hindustani but limited to vocal and only particular musicians ). I am trying to learn l vocal but so far not succeeded and also tryiing flute since last 1 year or so with not much success. I have learnt this only to become a good and soulful listener of CM.

I am sorry to state that I am a late joiner of the forum since long, but better late than never. I am interested to follow the discussions here and and gain some valuable knowledge.

Is there an age bar for learning?

I wish this forum goes on forever. I thank you all for having created such a great forum.

Regards,

snrajan

hearty welcome S N R ,
As far as CM learning is concerned ,age bar does not arise at all .As you grow older, your maturity of musical thoughts grows younger and the spiri continues to be t kept aloft !!!
