personally, I tunes is an excellent software for organizing music. I absolutely love it - I have it on my PC and on my powerbook; as well as in the imac in my office. Further, I can share music between computer easily, because itunes shares music over the network very easily!

Well, to each his own, I guess. Podcasts are not restricted to itunes.

Regarding Podcasts, I thought with 'podcasts' you do not really '....cast' anything but it is just a download wrapped in RSS for easy notifications. But you seem to use 'podcast' as in 'streaming'. Wouldn't you need a streaming host server for it? Not sure what problem it really solves in this context.

It was a lovely speech, short and sweet during the concert --a rasikA's dream. Alas, not a reality in concerts. The speech was eloquent too, I may add. Since I could only hear NSG while I translated his speech--no script here--I may not be doing justice to every word of his interlude (as opposed to an interruption in a concert).

"This evening, we heard dEva gAnam (divine music) with joy. I don't have to go vaLa vaLA (rambling) about such vaLamAna (rich) music.
Sankar's music had divine grace and he happened to bring that to the listener as well. Out of such grace are sangItam, sAhityam and manOdharmam (imagination) born.
The three lofty goals of Kulkarni are at work here: the well being and flourishing of music, musicians and rasikAs.
Something special has happened in these concerts--musicians performing for musicians (as rasikAs along with you rasikAs) in the homes of musicians!
ambAL (the goddess) is a sangIta rasikai! TyAgarAjA calls rAmA a rasika SirOmaNi! They too are rasikAs. Among us, rasikAs can be musicians and musicians rasikAs.
Charulata Ramanujam played along like a shadow. No, she went one step beyond in not only anticipating the vocalist but in looking into his mind as well! She comes from a lineage of a musically endowed family from Hubli. She plays with such grace and sincerity. As honey bees come in search of honey, rasikAs come seeking her and that is how you hear her play all over the world. She has accompanied me in many concerts.
As for Easwaran, vAzhtta vayadillai, vaNanguginREn (I am not old enough to bless him, thus I bow to him). In my boyhood days in Neyveli, I used to go to the bus terminal to receive musicians. When I went to meet him as well, he came home for lunch and the pallavis he wrote down for me in my music note book are still there.with me. He played for me the day before yesterday. Each tani is a tani (unique) with him. One like a gentle breeze, another like a fluttering butterfly. One a painting, another a poem, yet another a tale. He is perfection personified with his expertise.
Sowmya the hostess, by offering the basement of her building, helped lay the foundation (base) for sound music.
May rasikAs flourish, may music flourish, may we reach divinity through music!"

That was great, arasi. Whenever Rajiv Gandhi used to give speeches in Tamil Nadu, Chidambaram (our current FM) would translate his Hindi/English lines into Tamizh. I was a kid then and I used to get very excited when Chidambaram spoke the tamizh lines. It's the same feeling I get when I read your English versions.

I have to agree hundred % with Neyveli Sir. My brother Easwaran was not in the habit of diving into the electronic world and hence he was unaware of Rasika.org. But this time, I gave him the link and introduced him to our site. He has taken to it like a duck to the water. After reading Arasi's translation, he told me over the phone how "exact" the translation was and said that it was "verbatim". His exact words were "Neyveli sir yen pakkathila okkandu pesara madiri irruku"....well done Arasi...perhaps you should work for UN !!

When Neyveli Sir talked about Charulatha's music and how she gets into the mind of the vocalist, Easwaran sir reacted spontaneously with a " bale" and immeditately gave Neyveli a pat for those wonderful lines. It was quite thrilling to watch that unfold. In rShankar's parlance, a "Mastercard moment".

NSG's speeches always match his music - both of a very high standard. His use of 'sleadai' at the appropriate palce is one to be admired. I think his speech at the millenium celebrations at the Academy was certainly one of the highlights of that program.

Coolkarni & others, a very big congratulations for organising chamber concerts with noble objectives and many thanks for sharing the recordings. Shankar's saveri is still ringing in my ears as I write this.

well done Arasi. For a moment you could fool one who cannot discriminate which is the original and which the trasnlation. For all we know NSG could have spoken in english and the tamil version is the translation for the Tamil audience. This is not an idle statement as I am relishing your Tamil writings describing the NA life through Tamilian eyes! Trust you are having a good time!

As someone who invited him to the concert and then wrote a small chit , requesting him to speak a few lines , I must admit it is always a heartening experience to listen to him.Never a mike grabber , there is something else that strikes a chord with us , in his speeches-
The Focus on TRUE experience.
The Videos that will come up may not not show this aspect in its fullest dimension, but the sight of NSG attending somebody else's concert is a treat to the eyes.Sitting erect with closed eyes, a few feet away from the artist.
That undivided attention has nothing pretentious about it.
His speeches have that quality of making us run behind a set of colourful balloons on the beach.
I consider it my fortune to experience these at close quarters.

The neraval is generally sung either at the beginning of the rendition of the anupallavi or charnam lines, or sometimes the whole krithi is sung and then the neraval is sung. Shri bangalore Shankar sang the whole krithi inclusive of the two lines that you thought were omitted and then sang the neraval. I just crosschecked the recording.

I don't think the novel lends itself to translation. The one english novel I wrote still enjoys sweet slumber in manuscript form in one of the filing cabinets. To break through the barriers of the publishing world for a first time novelist, in any part of the world, means a lot of effort--I gave up after some time. I ain't t no spring chicken, and you know that!

If Thyagaraja had sung his compositions in privacy would the CM world have ever woken up to that divine CM. Of course he never wanted publicity or recognition. You are lighting a candle and hiding it under the bushel ! It is time that you face the limeliight and bring your creations to the reading public and let them be the judge. Here is one who read it and found the theme 'real' and exhilarating and the language 'poetic' yet natural. There is no limit to your largesse! What a concert..there are wonderful members on this forum who contribute in terms of their knowledge, time, effort, goodwill and tons of other thing. Your good intentions, however, take all their efforts of this forum to new dimensions...like how Sri Hanuman made Sri Rama shine ever greater....

Rajeshnat, your reviews are from the heart, perhaps tougher sometimes, but definitely, the pains u take to present your information makes it so worthwhile to read. RBhrath and other reviewers, please continue your great work.

I've had a tough time in recent times, having to drive for close to 2 hours just to make class in the dreary cold, and coming back late at nite...and these concerts make it so enthralling that I just find myself waiting to drive to class...and statistics is a subject I abhor!

It is also such a humbling experience to see the greats of our generation including so many artists, vageyyakaras, friends, rasikas, people of such great erudition as Arasi, VGV, Lakshman ji etc and mere mortals take part with such enthusiasm....now, DRS/Ram need to be enticed as nd whenever they can share even little thoughts...and ofcourse, moderators have been doing a good job recently in not unnecessarily disturbing all the public threads. It is again refreshing to wake up on a dreary morning looking forward to what could have happened at the other end of the world....thanks a ton for the gem that is this Sri Bangalore Shankar concert....pristine, pure and heartfelt...like how our culture was always meant to be!!!
