This is the most disappointing concert I have heard in this season. First of all, the concert timing is very short less than 2 hours and his song selections are not upto the mark. Thani is reall "Thani" only. Suddenly the Thani started and it ended in 3 minutes !!!
Varnma-kambodhi
Sivaloka nathanai-MM Gowla-Muthu Tandavar (!)
Sree Lakshmi - Aaboghi D - (R)
Gaanamrutha- Jyothiswaroopini KI - (R)
Nee Cheyathe- Yadukulakambodhi- T- (R)
Dasar- Behag
Couple of Tukkadas - (I retired hurt from the pavilion before the Tukkadas started)
Before leaving the hall, everyone was given a bag in which there is an article by Sanjay- "The philosophy behind my music". He says-"The music presented is a mixture of composed and improvised music". Both of these were missing in his concert.
The full house NGS on a Sunday morning, leaving all the TV programmes, expected some Vintage (Maverick was the name given by Indian Express on that day's paper) music. An ardent fan of Sanjay will have all his commercial collection (leave alone his "pirated" live) and he should desist singing those again on a Sunday morn concert. Normally, he ventures in to new Raaga (like Narayani...) or render some New songs. (Air programme of Sanjay uploaded by Sri TVG in sangeethapriya, recently, goes like this- Kedaram-Narayani-Huseni-Subhapantuvarali-Kambodhi-Dwijavanthi)
Any one else attended NGS ?

Cool Ji (II) - Please ask your friend the following Q ?
Why did he give Raaga Alaapana for Aabhogi, J.pini and Y.Kambodhi in a row ? Is it the way to give a concert ?
Can Y.Kbodhi be considered as a main piece ?
Is the Thani Ok ?
When Sanjay knew it is going to be less than 2 hours concert, he should have taken one Gana Raaga as the unknown Gayathri (the singer before RG, reviewed here) did in BVP ?
All the songs are in his Commercial Release cassette. Like Malladis, he could have tried new Kritis.
How many times he is going to sing Jyothiswaroopini ?
Iam the greatest Fan of Sanjay. Opinions differ as Coolji says. If some one enjoyed that concert. Iam happy.

In my opinion, this concert appears to strike a balance between manodharma sangeetam and kalpita sangeetam. Given the short duration and absence of Pallavi, where the majority of manodharmam happens in a traditional 3 hour concert, it is probably a good choice to have elaborated three ragas in a row.
Among the current artists, Sanjay is one of the few artists who can read the audience very well and tailor his rendition accordingly and I am surprised he would not have sensed any discontent for his "three raga in a row". Or to give him the benfefit of doubt, he was probably trying a new approach.
Today's innovation is tomorrow's tradition

Y. Kambhoji as a main is well accepted.........i mean ppl like MDR have taken it up as the main Raga during so many occassions. I dont see anything worng there. But wat u feel abt three raga elaborations i agree.......................but since i wasnt there personally....i have no clue wat the audience pulse wld have been.....................i also heard he got applause for his Shadjamam Sancharam in trhe main raga....for pausing on the note for nearly a minute in perfect shruthi.....................anyways.........no more comments from me as i wasnt there personally for the concert.......i thought...the way u put it was quite blunt..........now tat u have explained ur point it makes more sense.

I for one would not miss the absence of these so called "Gana" ragas in a concert. Unfortunately the same five or six ragas are sung over and over again and many times it is the same kriti to boot.
At the same time as Sanjay, I was actually upstairs listening to an out-of-the-world concert by Abhishek. Even the most common place raga such as Poorvikalyani" sounded extraordinary in his rendition. With 3 straight super concerts of his, I am all set to becoming an Abhishek groupie (May be get a buzz cut and some high powered glasses
