This is in no way a review of sorts as I am not qualified to write one.

The Nattaikurinji Pada Varnam always serves as a nice start to a concert. The Atana Krithi was sung with a quick round of Swarams. It has been quite a while since I heard Vasantha being elaborated and it was a nice delineation of the Ragam. Shri HN Bhaskar's version showed clear glimpses of the Parur style Prayogams. Thyagaraja's Sitamma Mayamma was an expected choice and was rendered well. Then, an elaborate Simmendramadhyamam followed revealing a strong voice control even in Tara Sthayi. An element of pathos was subtly demonstrated in the Ragam. Shri HN Bhaskar too played an emotive version. Ninne Nammithinaiya was the Krithi rendered with Neraval and Swarams at Pannegandra Shayana. The Swarams included quite a bit of Kanakku towards the end and the violinist's responses were highly praiseworthy.

Edhaya Gathi in Chalanata was a good choice. Always nice to hear rare Melakartha Krithis. A rapid Minalochani in Thodi was a good filler. By now, it was quite clear that a Pallavi was on the cards and well, the Ariyakudi format came to the fore with a Pallavi in Nattaikurinji (after a Varnam in the same Ragam). Good portrayal of the Ragam. The Tanam was very interesting with some adventurism attempted in the Mel Kalam. The violinist too repsonded very well in his turn. The Pallavi was set to Khanda Triputa and Trikalam was sung as well. The highlight was the Ragamalika Swarams. Personally, I am not a big fan of the Ragamalika Swarams especially in a short concert. But, here, just two Ragams (apart from Nattaikurinji) were chosen and Swarams rendered for quite a while in those - Shubhapanthuvarali and Kanada. The execution was nice and in each round, Swarams ended in Nattaikurinji with the blend being perfect. Nice planning here. The Tani was short but had quite a few nice patterns. Shri Poongulam Subramaniam and Shri Karthick accompanied well for all the songs as well.

The post-main pieces included Shri Madhava in Behag and Petra Thai in Revathi. A Revathi always provides a nice finishing touch to a concert. A traditional Bhajan Jaya Jaythi rounded off the concert.

Overall, a very nice and satisfying concert, well executed by Smt Gayathri. Commendable concert planning and delivery admirably supported by the team.

What is the lyrics for "Petra Thai" ? Moderator, if you think this inappropriate for the thread, please move it into a different place holder.

Thanks Satej for a nice review.
I was lucky to be present in the concert and it was a great one.The hall was packed from Varnam to Mangalam.I am following other threads regarding allotment of disproportionate time for Tukkadas to draw crowds. It was gratifying to note that Smt Gayathri Girish proved that pure classical concert, when well planned and executed can draw and hold attention of large number of rasikas .
