Sankari Krishnan's concert at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan had all the ingredients required in a classical concert viz Bhavam, traditonal padanthram, vidvat, gnanam, magical voice etc.. Her selection of ragams and kritis had a great sense of purpose. The lyrical beauty of " Vazhi maraikuthu" in Natakurunji and 'Bhavasagaram karai eralam' in Shanmukapriya was brought to the fore by her bhava soaked rendition which made us feel the true import of "janman karai eruthal". Her magical music had such power that the presence and touch of divinity could be perceived on that day. This power coupled with her bhavam- filled renditions of all the songs including the main item "Ramakatha sudha" in Madyamavathi and tillana of Padmabhushan Lalgudi G.Jayaraman in Shivaranjani touched our hearts. Padma Shankar portrayed the ragas well and aptly accompanied Sankari during the rendition of kritis. However, she needed to give more support when the vocalist rendered the various ragas. The percussion artists, Sherthalai Ananthakrishnan and K.V.Gopalakrishnan were intensely immersed in the proceedings and got so inspired by Sankari's music that their wonderful tani lasted more than the normal proportion in a 2 hour concert. In short, it was a wholesome concert filled with sublime bliss and was enjoyed by the rasikas, critics and the organiser alike.

After reading your review, i felt curious and interested and have checked the market for Sankari Krishnan's cds, if any. She has given an album containing 14 songs in yadukulakamboji alone. another album Sukhanandam was also available. I have picked up her latest cd containing 13 thirukurals with 13 tamil krithis of different composers. It was great listening to the cds. I am thankful for ur review. I am planning to listen to her on 21/12/2007 at Mylapore Fine Arts Society. If i feel satisfied I may attend her another concert on 25/12/2007 at Brahma Gana Sabha. Its a bit disturbing that there are some lesser known artists who deliver well but do not get the required recognition. anyway keep reviewing other concerts also for our benefit.
