Vidwat and bhavam rarely combine and when it does it’s like enjoying the best filter coffee in the world. Ravi Kiran’s concert at the Music Academy had a high level of both and his rendition took us to the Garba graham of Carnatic Music. It would be worthwhile to understand why a temple is so designed. We have huge gopurams on all four sides depicting the huge world around us. As we go to the inner region of the temple everything gradually becomes smaller and darker until we find the deity in the innermost region which is the most smallest and the darkest region in the temple premises. We need the light of a lamp to see the deity although we don’t need it to perceive the aura of the deity. Why is it so? Gopurams are the personification of huge physical and material world and the senses wonder at its grandeur. But that is not realization. Only when we take ourselves inward into the darker and smaller realms of our being, the light of our realization would help us see God to feel one with. Well, Ravi Kiran lit the lamp of his antharathma and divinity was shown for us to see. Such was the majesty of his concert. Embar Kannan, Eswaran, Radhakrishnan and Anirudh also lit their lamps which added to the clarity of vision of the deity, namely Carnatic Music. It was a splendid team effort in Gnyana Yoga that took us with ease to the technical, profound and hidden contours of Kalyani, Ahiri, especially the intricate pallavi in Bhairavi. Thus the concert was so absorbing that it touched both the technical as well as the lay rasikas alike.

Oh Ravikirans concert today at the Academy was sheer heavenly bliss. In Yajur veda it is sadi that a person who can play the Veena gets Moksha instantly. But I think everyone who got o hear the Chitravina, today will be assured Moksha.
Such was the class and divinity in the concert today
His team was also great ( a mild adjective ) compared to the profoundity present on stage.
Each one complemented and competed wonderfully and the overall concert was a presentation par exellence.
To me particularly, my first concert for the season at Academy was with Ravi's and the aural treat was unforgettable.
The best was the usage of his old style vaadhyam, which helped produce the heavenly effect that one talks about.
Kudos to Ravi and his team

Very beautifully put Krishans!!! It was indeed a divine sojourn. The team was great ..I truly enjoyed the Bhairavi RTP and the Balahamsa not to mention all the other pieces. It was a great start for me for the Academy concerts. I normally gauge a concert with the intensity with which my head shakes ..Yesterday my head just did not stop shaking!!!! And like saveri said the instrument also amde a difference yesterday.
