Review of the award function and concert at Sriramabhakthajanasamaj, KK nagar.

TNS was awarded the title of sangaaethamaamaNi by the sriramabhaktha janasamaj on 16-12-2007 which was followed by his concert. Dr. Srivatsa who felicitated TNS said that he is a sampoornavidvaan, like whom “ na bhootho na bhavishyathiâ€

My son who is a diehard fan of TNS attended the concert at Bharat Kalachar and he was most disappointed with the performance which has been reviewed. He was of the opinion that the music was too loud and an assault on the eardrums by his loud full throated singing. and I was surprised to see him return much before the conclusion of the concert and this view is at variance with the review reported above. A different perception of the same performance....

A diehard TNS fan like me went to the concert at Bharat Kalachar yesterday with great expectation, But alas it was not a concert I would like to remember . This time the problem was not the voice - his voice was in a good shape throughout the concert.

First, TNS was late and the concert started at ~ 6:30 pm instead of 6:00 pm. TNS overdid the vocal exuberance in lathangi and kambodhi and sacrificed the raga elegance. In fact the swara session in kambodhi was more of a mathematical test for the accompaniments .

So much so that the organiser referred to TNS in the post tani speech as Teerada vilayattu pillai and made specific mention of how he toyed with swarams like a Chinese Juggler throwing balls. Also in view of the rain TNS was told to finish his concert by 9 pm .

All this may not have gone well with TNS because the tukkadas following the speech were all devoid of bhava. The usual multi raga virutham was missing. The two RGM pieces were not the normal TNS standard.

Fixing an end time for a concert, after which there is none to follow, is not in good taste, especially for senior performers.

Please note one important thing. I was at Bharath Kalachar at 5 p.m. TNS was the first to arrive at the venue. I dont know the reason for the late start but sure can hundred percent say that it was not TNS this time.
