Smt. RV gave an out and out pue "Vidwat Sangeetam", this evening. The theme was Rama nee smaanam evaru.

Tamizhla sollanumna, kadanju eduttha vidwat. teLivana vidwat.

Balanced, soulful, well modulated and well peppered with the right songs and ragas.

She made a bold start with Evarani (Devamrutavarshini), followed by Kshitija Ramanam(Devagandhari).

She made a short and crisp alapana of Vachaspati and sang Ennadu neekripa galguno.
The neraval was the masterpiece of this kriti. She did a srotovaha of the words, builtthem up, from galguno, kripa galguno, nee kripa galgunoennadu nee kripa galguno. It was as if she was peading with the Lord herself using, Patnam's sahityam. And the half avartanam and one avarthanm swaras embellished he song rather beautifully.

This was followed up with a serene Saranam Saranam Raghurama( Asaveri).

The Main peice was Shanmukhapriya ( Mariver Dikkevaru). The raga was a crown in the jewel. Shanmukhapriya from RV is always a delight and every time she sings this raga , there is something fresh about it.

Following this was SriRama Jayarama (YadukulaKamboji),with many an inflexion at Dasaruthudu Sri Rama. Next came Viruttam (Vame Bhoomi Suta) - Karaharapriya, Saveri, Neelambari, Sindhubahiravi ans Surutti, sliding into Pathiki Harathi Re.

Akkarai Subbulakshmi, followed her with a lot of bhavyam and bhaavam. She mirrored the singers sentiments absolutely and did not oveplay even a bit.

Vellore Ramabhadran, needs no review, as always he is sowkhyam personified and ably added a gentle rhythm to the concert.

For all the listeners this concert was a connoiseurs' special.

But it felt like six hours!! Incredible concert. Vachaspati isn't a raga which
I usually enjoy too much, but I think this concert has probably changed
my opinion for the better. Kshitija ramanam was absolutely divine. And
Vocalist, AFAIK, Kshitija Ramanam is a composition of MD, not Thyagaraja.

To start a concert with Evarani, one need to be bold & need lot of skill!! Starting with Tara styayi shadjam - is no joke... Vedavalli is definitely capable of doing that, and she proved it

This is not the first occasion i have heard Smt Vedavalli begin a concert with evarani. She does it in style definitely.

I enjoyed this concert a lot. The AlApanais of dEvagAndhAri and vAcaspati and shanmukhapriyA were all very scholarly and appealing to the soul. Her neraval, which is her forte, made the sAhitya bhavam felt. The svarams were all nice as well.

Accompanists were amazing as well.
