TNS Krishna gave a spell binding performance at the Academy yesterday. Many shades of TNS from a couple of decades back - although the voice is mellower and breathing is shallower. Swara and tala gnanam is extraordinary and a mami sitting near by remarked. "pulikku pirandhadhu poonai aagumaa"?
1. Inta Chala (varnam) - Begada
2. Meru samana - Mayamalavagowla, (S)
3. Marivere, Shanmugapriya, Patnam (RNS)
4. Amba neelayadakshi - Neelambari - Dikshitar
5. Amba vani - Keervani - HKMB
6. Kalyani - Talli - Shyama Sastry
7. RTP - Thodi

Puliku pirandhadhu poonai agadhu.
But then Krishna has realised what aspects of the pulitvam one should take and how he should embellish it wih his own creativity. He did not copy or imitate the style of his father blindly.
He was definitely one notch above this year compared to last year, clearly showing that, musically he is maturing well.
His presentation was impeccable, brighas and karvais used mellifluously and sowkhyam being preserved at all times.
Only one thing i felt ,was that he could have sung the RTP even more elaborately, given the competent manner in which he rendered it. Had he cut the Kalyani piece he could have sung swarams for the pallavi. Also if he works on reducing the nasality he could do better for himself.
Hats off to him, for all the hardwork, and his own musical brilliance, that he is able to manage so well ,with a busy job at Cognizant on the one hand and the pressures of being a stalwarts' son on the other.

yes. Items 2, 3 and 4 were simply excellent.
When singing raga alapnanas, TNSK sings these long passages without any perceptible pauses and it has an incredible effect. Also has good rapport with his accompanists who try to elevate their playing also. Last I heard him was 3 or 4 years back when he was overwhelimingly technique - and joyfully now the aesthetics has blended in now.
