Thirukkarugavur G.Srinivasa Raghavan - Vocal
S.Karthick - Violin
Mannarkoil J Balaji - Mridangam

This very senior vocalist hailing from Tanjore/Trichy gave an excellent concert for the Satguru Sangeeta Samajam, Villivakkam. When the whole of chennai town is hovering around the Pops (hahahah i mean popular figures) this quiet place in villvakkam hosted a three day festival to cater to the residents of Villivakkam and suburbs who cannot easily access chennai due to various reasons and the main one being the deplorable road journey.

Coming back to the concert the items included :

Sangeetha - Shanmukhapriya Varnam - Adi - ????
Swaminatha Paripalayasumam - Naata -Adi
Sundara Taradeham-Pantuvarali-Adi
Janakajasametha-Asaaveri-Adi
Paarvathikumaaram Bhavaye-Naatakurinji
Paripalinchumaani-Sudha Saaveri-Khanda Chaapu
Anganmaagnalathu-Bhairavi-Thiruppavai-MChaapu
Sri Raghuvara-Atana-Adi
Koluvamaregatha-Thodi-Adi
Virutham-Siruviralgal Thadavi parimaara-Paasuram from Naalayira divya prabandam-Naavalam
followed by Madhava Maamava-Neelambari
Mangalam

A Vintage concert with all the traditional aspects of singing. Sang a rare varnam which i hv never heard. Swaminatha Paripalayamam was rendered well with ease and flow. He sang swaram at Paarvathi (3 beats after samam) giving lots of varieties.

Natakurinji had an excellent alapana followed up by Paarvathikumaaram Bhavaye. His natakurinji had the vintage flavour and true to his tradition he sang it with innate Bhava.

He took up Koluvamaregatha in thodi as the main item with Niraval and swaram at Thambura Chekoni that is 1 1/2 aksharam before samam. Atheetham Eduppu.

He sang with passion and lots of involvement in each of the kritis which was quite evident from the kritis that he chose and also his renditions.

Madhava Maamava and Mangalam ended a fine concert.

S Karthik, though young in age showed ample maturity in his playing and approach. he is a disciple of V.Thiagarajan and currently learning from Smt.T.Rukmani.

A brief about Thirukkarugavur Srinivasaraghavan :

He was born in 1942 in Tanjore district and he started learning at the age of 5 from Thirumaignanam Shri.Shanmugasundaram Pillai, a Nadaswara Vidwan at his home town Thirukkarugavur. Later he learng from Kovai Shri.Krishna Baghavathar and Thanjai Shri Vasu Bhagavathar, a vainika vidwan. Later on he had intensive training under Swamimalai Shri.S.Janakirama Iyer.

Actually he worked in Telephones and retired from service. He has given many concerts in Trichy, Tanjore and other places in Chennai also. I have listened to his concerts in chennai under the auspicious of Naadopaasana and Saraswathi Vaggeyakkara Trust when i was a young boy.
He is an A grade artiste of AIR and has been training students in Music. One of his prime disciples is Dr.Ganesh (he learnt from him before moving to chennai to get under the tutelage of Maharajapuram Santanam).

I shall post his picture in my other posts to follow and if possible post audio also.

Now Sri Srinivasaraghavan is settled in Bangalore.

Members Please keep the volume low .. as it was not a very proper and professional recording. If the volume is high then the quality might be muffled.
Sorry for the trouble.

Balaji: I listened to the upload. It was quite nice to hear: Shri Srinivasaraghavan's soulful singing, your mridangam playing and Sri. Karthick's violin..Thanks.
