7. vazhi maraithirukute - natakurinji - mishra chapu - GKB
8. nAdi tEdi - bhagEshri - arunagiri nAdar thirupugazh
9. mangalam
Starting with a rare begada varnam, Sanjay set the expectation for rest of the concert. Following is not frequently heared asaveri kriti (Incidentally vijay siva also sang this keerthana as 2nd piece in Bharat kalachar concert 2 days ago). Saranga alapana was fabulous, and the keerthanam was rama ninne. Mani rangu was awsome and brought back memories of DKP. Mayamalava gowala was given elaborate treatment, and meru samana was wonderfully sung. Neraval at Galamuna shobillu was out of the world. Gowri manohari RTP was well executed and trikalam was performed. Mishra chapu taala is not very popular in RTP segment though. After ragamalika swaras (last one being natakurinji), sanjay transitioned to Vazhi maraithirukute of gopalakrishna bharati. Concert concluded with tirupugazh and mangalam.

quote ' Pallavi words - darisanam kidaikumO natarAja dhayAnidE un'
During yesteryears, stalwarts like SSI used to sing "Un darshanm kidaikkumO natarAja, dhayAnidE' in Kalyani and tisra tirupudai - eduppu one aksharam before the actual tAlam starts. Sanjay used the same pallavi with placement of words here and there.
- calculationwise tisra tirupudai & misra chappu works out same -
Eureka...

It was another very good concert from Sanjay. The 'pricey' KGS witnessed a fullhouse, yesterday being a holiday.
What I really liked about the concert was that ragas like Saranga, Manirangu, MMG and Gowrimanohari were taken up for elaboration and that too by a raga delineation guru like Sanjay. We don't get to hear these ragas too often and Sanjay's innovation makes it simply exceptional. I thought Varadarajan's gowrimanohari was par excellence. He is undoubtedly one of the best violinists around and his Dhanyasi at the Malladi brothers concert at the Music Academy last week was simply super stuff. Neyveli Venkatesh has been in great form this season and yesterday was no exception. The mohrsing was very special and one could see his tremendous command over the instrument during the thani.

rgopalan-It is a old double cassette commercial release. I remeber that concert with other songs like- Vinaradhana-Devagandhari and "kaNa KaNNayiram VeNdum in Neelambari. I still remeber the Raag "Neelambari" was wrongly mentioned in the cover.. If you still don't find it, I will get the "Company" that released this album.....
Iam a die hard (6) fan of Sanjay next to Prashant, who is die hard (5) !!!!!

Yes the saranga, MMG and gowrimanohari alapanais were very good. Manirangu, I personally felt was a little faster (yes jaya jaya padmanabha - the tempo is faster than Mamava Pattabhirama) and lost of little of its elegance. But still kudos to Sanjay for having sung Manirangu one of the rarely sung ragas this season (in alapana)
Thanam was a shade shorter than the normal Sanjay standards (probably I have got used to his RGM thanams !)
Talking of repetitions - Sri Parvathi Paramadavaita Sive is another - sung with Sri raga alapana IIRC , elsewhere this season and sung again as second piece at NGS .

On the other(factual) hand, Sanjay sings almost 200 days in a year (my statistics may be wrong) and repeat here and there is always possible.
Yesteryears too, eppO varuvAro, nottu, kANa kankOdi etc. were repeated by MMI and otherstalwarts, being listeners' choice though.
My point is singing all new songs every time, is very difficult. And during season, people like Sanjay may sing more than once in a day.

hi sindhu,
I agree with you 100%. Everybody has repetitions.
I feel MMI and MS had no scope for giving anything other than some standard items. I feel Sanjay has not come to that stage.
But during season, I found TMK and Sanjay are performing almost daily once "only". They have a holiday before an important concert lik MA or something like that. But definitely not more than once a day.

dear rajaglan,
sorry to differ with you. MMI and MS would have repeated some standard tukkadas and not main songs. also artistes like mmi would like to perfect a song before rendition unlike present generation who sing with books open. also the recordings of mmi donot reveal his repertoir, for his shishyas say that his was one of the largest reportoirs during his era. and not all new songs adorn a concert, even we have disposition to listen to ever green kritis, so repition is good to that extent.
