Quick review ,stareted with just a good pantuvarAli varnam that is bit rare. The highlight to me was bahudAri , particularly neraval in sadAnanda tAndavam , I have not heard from any musicians, in total the entire bahudAri was outstanding.(Has any musician sung a neraval in sadananda tAndavam, please do post the musicians name)
The vAchaspathi (bhooshAvati)of MD was perhaps intended to connect the academy connoisseur, I found it not too interesting. That was offset with very good swaras in vasantA after he sang a rare krithi. The swaras and alApanai of kharaharapriya main was excellent, but the neraval was just good to very good .
Dual RTP had its pluses and minuses of a 2hr concert , Plus was perhaps a demonstration of vidwath but the minus to me was very personal he sang longer swarams for sArangA , but shortened in one of my favourite rAgas brindAvana sAranga, would have loved if it was reverse. both the tAnam and rAga alApanai though brief was very good to excellent.
Smt Amritha played very good , there was a slight slip where she had to retune during RTP, but suryaprakAsh continued well . Her rAga return of bahudAri ,sAranga and brindavAna sAranga was excellent in melody. The mridangist was just good. The last mOhanam was very good in diction and I was hearing it for the first time.
Overall a very good concert, there is a consistency of delivery in suryaprakAsh that impresses me a lot .But I had little higher expectation here in academy .

Sri N.Vijay Siva sang one(plus swaras) yesterday at a Kartik Fine Arts' Tamil Isai festival at the very same line... Coincidentally, I just recorded an AIR broadcast of Smt. Nithyasree Mahadevan an hour ago where she sang swaras at that line...rajeshnat wrote:Quick review ,stareted with just a good pantuvarAli varnam that is bit rare. The highlight to me was bahudAri , particularly neraval in sadAnanda tAndavam , I have not heard from any musicians, in total the entire bahudAri was outstanding.(Has any musician sung a neraval in sadananda tAndavam, please do post the musicians name)

Rajesh,
Yes, it was a good concert and bahudAri sparkled (I have heard MMI sing it delightfully, of course). As you say, i wish he had elaborated more on brindAvana sAranga. When the time for exposition is limited, a single rAgA pallavi would be more effective, I think. I felt the same about his multi rAga pallavi in Cleveland concert last year.
It so happened that Amruta Murali was an accompanist in several of the concerts I attended and I was impressed by her versatality in playing to different styles of singing. I hope I can get to hear her sing too, since she has branched out into vocal music as well.
