Amrita Murali's concert was just good as a rendition. Overall one wished more involvement, spontaneity and gaatram in the concert.

Ranjani Ramakrishnan had fine bowing and a good approach to bowing , but overall her playing also was not enthusiastic.

Mridangam by R.Sankaranarayanan was very good and he played deftly and had a good naadam to his playing.

I went in during Thodi alaapana (Dasarathe was the krithi). I was very impressed especially compred to her performances over the last couple of years...I for one though the Thodi came from the heart. She seemed to pull back from the alaapana for fear of overshooting her time limit.

Yes the accompanists were very good. It was a difficult idam (samam - 1/4 i think) and Sankaranarayanan came up with a fine korvai. He is one to watch out for although some strokes seemed a little thin at times. But do take this with a pinch of salt since I am totally skeptical about audio projection in case of mrudangam (maybe a separate post on this later)

There is a saying Loko Binna Ruchihi. But even that I think cannot apply to the curt one line dismissal of the music concert by Amritha Murali at the Academy., which compels me to write the following.

I went in when she was singing Vadera Dhaivamu. The song list as I recollect is Thyagarajaya Namaste (Begada), Brovamamma (Manji), Ninnade (Kannada), Dasarathi (Thodi), and a virutham ending with Ramanai Tharuvai in Sindu Bhairavi.

Clarity of concept and neat presentation marked her raga elaborations of Begada and Thodi . The subtle nuances of Begada were well brought out , The Thodi presented was vibrant and passionate.

The Kritis selected were weighty ones and sung with clear pronunciation, raga bhava and technical virtuosity. The neraval was technically and aesthetically satisfying. The patterning of the swaras was typical of the Semmangudi bhani.

Brovavamma , was , however, in the style of the Brindha school.

Ranjani Ramakrishnan’s violin was sweet and tidy.
Sankaranarayanan was at his usual supportive best.

At the end of the concert , I felt that the weighty classical music that she presented, would automatically elevate her to the sub senior level next year.

The eduppu that Amrutha did for niraval is the same as what KVN used to do for the song (Daasarathi).

The eduppu is 1/2 aksharam before samam (Prakasha....) or 30 matras after samam, Sankarnarayanan used that approach for all the korvais in his thani (korvai coming 10, then 20, then 30 matras each time).

the concert began with sri ragam varnam.

i found the concert quite good. her alapanais were good. the songs were rendered well. Smt Ranjani was good, however she was a little draggy and meandering during the initial stages of the todi alapanai. sankaranarayanan's tani was ncie.
