After a long time i got the satisfaction of listening to a top class carnatic concert. Master Balamuralikrishna has mastered the art very well and has matured into a fine artist with a solid lakshya-lakshana gnaanam.
Etladorikithivo in Vasanta reminded one of yester year stalwarts. Teliyaledu Rama was brisk with captivating swaras. No major elaboration of any song or raga before the pallavi, as he had set upon himself to do ample justice to the pallavi.
The piece de resistance was the Kamboji pallavi in Adi tala Misra Nadai.
What was very interesting and captivating was that he stuck to the knitting. An elaborate raga started at 2.45p.m went on for about 15mins. Thereafter ample doses of Tanam and Pallavi with all the Trikaalams, Tisram, chatusra Tisram and what not. All these were done without any overdose or undue exhibitionism.
He was so comfortable with himself and also encouraged his accompanists to do their bit in pallavi.
He has a pleasing voice, may not be attractive to some, but the voice has weight and modulation both. Gamakas as well as brikhas, speak well. Added to this , his raga and laya gnaanam is great . He is in total control of himself and manages his concert with sound planning.
Delhi Sairam on the mridangam and Ambikaprasad, violin , added a lot of colour and charm to his singing. Sairam was so confident on the mridangam and he aided the artists well with his support.
Master, can now be used to denote his Mastery over the art , instead of his age !
What was interesting was that, all the three of them were youngsters with a lot of hope and ambition in making it big in the field and they have their bearings right. They must only protect and guard themselves against, giving in into popularity gimmicks and claps.
But watching them today , one was confident that they have clearly chartered a course of classical ideals for themselves and for the future of Carnatic Music.

The nadai pallavi was very good, and it came out rather well, I thought.
Delhi Sairam played exceedingly well yesterday, with a lot of restraint. He did not go overboard and his playing had pleasing contrasts of vallinam/mellinam (loud and soft sounds).
