needless to say it was a concert which made one enjoy every moment of it. amazing clarity and renditions. superb concert. strict vEgavAhini without chakravakam, the solid rendition of the svarajati, the sparkling cittai svaram in bahudari, nice alapanais of kAnaDA and purvikalyani, the grand sankarabaranam, it was all very very good. the supporting veenai was very nice. The mrudangist did a fantastic job in accompanying and in the tani.

A delectable experience.
The attendance was more than 120 , a very big attendance for a Veena Concert, with a liberal mingling of nris and foreigners.,
The amplification was just perfect.
Nirmala Rajasekar was very good in support and Poongulam soft and mellow.
A very happy beginning for the New Year at Raga Sudha Hall.

Last time I talked to Mami and told her everyone felt she was an authority on Dikshitar compositions, she jokingly remarked that maybe she should perform more "thematic" concerts with exclusive compositions of different composers before rasikas feel that her repertoire extends beyond Dikshitar compositions.jagan wrote:Mami told me that she was not feeling well and hence skipped thaanam.

Just before New Year, i was very very blessed to get a set of recordings of Mami from not-so-recent times (that is at least what i think, since the details of the recordings are mostly unknown.. maybe bharath could check with Mami and see if she remembers these)
Here is one sample: an AIR recording of Mysore Vasudevacharya compositions, and it even includes a taanam

I "dedicate" this and other recordings that I will post (might take some time, since i wish to "organize" those files, split/tag etc.) to
(1) Mami - for countless hours of divine music,
(2) Vidya - for her comment on another forum that "Mami's rendering of the Abhayamba Vibhakti compositions are in a class of their own", a *chance* reading of which opened my eyes and ears to Mami's music, and
(3) people like Kulkarni, Lakshman Ragde, T.V.Gopalakrishnan, H.M.G. Murthy, Ranganathan and several others who selflessly spend their time and effort in sharing music on this and other forums.
Regards.
PS : All errors in tagging [there could be several !!] concerts are mine. All credit for the music goes to the original recorder, Dr. Venkatachalam.
