A LITTLE BELATED POST. on 26th DECmadurai GSMANI was conferred with a title of tamizhisai vendhar by kartik fine arts ,annanagar ,chennai at a pleasnt function presided over by the hon central minister Sri gk vasan , for his yeoman service to tamizh isai, the citation also mentioned about his similar efforts in singapore .the musician and composer with a towering personality and baritone voice resembling AMJAD KHAN OF SHOLAY fame replied suitably . a book comprising of his compositions penned under the name of tennavan was also released. kumari Amrita murali was conferred with the title ISAICHUDAR AT THE SAME FUNCTION. VETERAN MUSICIANS ms anataraman and thanjavur sankara iyer were honoured with ponnadais and purses for their services to carnatic music .in cidentally while replying to the felicitation ms anantaraman stated that the greatest ghazal and tumri singer bade ghulam ali khan considered SRI GS MANI AS HIS MOST FAVOURITE SINGER along with Dr MLV GOBILALITHA

He was also conferred Vageyakara award in MA.He has always been very simple person keeping his composure and voice consistent.(It is often said whoever hailsfrom Madurai has/had a good voice.)(MMI,MSS,TNS,Somu,GSM). I too hail from MDU.For his indepth knowledge on Raga Lakshanas he deserves Sangeetha Kala Acharya.He is the first one to bring out a compendium on film music link to CM.His compositions are not much heard.I have heard one rare kriti in Brindavani (I think )popularised by Kalaimamani KJS .
