Smt. Vasumathi Desikan, a worthy disciple of Vidwan A Sundaresan , gave a solid, dignified performance for Nadopasana on 13th Jan .. . The selection of the songs and their presentation were in the classical mould..
Starting with a varnam Paavani (Bahudari ) by her Guru, she went on with Pahimam Sri Rajarajeswari of Shyama Sastri ( Nattai), Deva Deva Jagadiswara of Swati Thirunal, (Purvi Kalyani), Sri Abhayambika of Muthusamy Dikshitar ( Sri) , Saadvikam Sankaram of Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar (?) (Amritha varshini) , Pakkala Nilabadi of Thyagaraja (Karaharapriya), a viruttam Maiththadam kanni Yasodai in Dhanyasi, Begada and Hindolam and a pasuram of Periazhwar.
Her raga elaborations of Purvi Kalyani and Karaharapriya, the neravals and swaras were studious and dignified. . The Abhayamba Kriti was splendid.
The accompaniment by Hari Charan on the violin was adequate and by Srivatsan on the mridangam supportive.
