I was there until the kAmbhOji piece after which I had to [reluctantly] leave due to commitments day. The rItigauLa was OK but the kAmbhOji suite was nothing short of spectacular. The AlApanA was fantastic and Sri Sanjay presented the grand krithi beautifully eschewing niraval and swaras. I was definitely disappointed to have missed a gowLa RTP when I heard about the setlist earlier today :-)

I recall my days where I attended almost all the BARC concerts where you can sit on the floor very close to the Vidhwans and listen to the concert. BARC has got a very good temple-I think Raja rajeshwari with a beautiful and powerful Ganapathi. May be Sanjay took Ganapathi as RTP bec of this.... Pch..sad to miss this concert...
If someone gives composers name, it will be good..

5. AttaruNam

Was rasa vilasa requested after hearing that he sang it in Bangalore?
I haven't heard Sanjay sing many songs on Ganesha. GRS, you have explained why.

Well, an auspicious way for the vocalist to start a new year.
A very happy birthday to him!

Hi,

Multi raga thanam is on the pancha rathna kirthani ragas. Interesting.
I guess the pallavi line is his own creation.
Looks like an excellent concert planning.

What are the usual bombay season time where CM is performed. I used to see recording of Shanmugananda hall...? Can someone write about i.

Tanam in the ghana-panchaka ragas is quite common especially among veena artistes and some vocalists.

The pallavi line is from Muthuswamy Dikshitar's krithi in gowla and I guess Sanjay has modified the tune to suit the tala which he has used.

From the small portion of the concert I heard, Sri Varadarajan played an excellent rItigauLa but a pretty standard kAmbhOji. Sri Arun Prakash was his usual supportive and mellifluous self.

When it comes to singing thanam, I haven't found an equal to Sanjay. All of the thanams that I have heard from him have been brilliant. I am sure this one must have been exceptional as well.

My father, who was present for the concert, mentioned that he could identify a lot of nadaswara gamaka pidis in Sanjay's raga alapanas in the thara sthayi. He seems to have reflected upon and assimilated all the stuff that he has been learning from his latest guru Shri SRD Vaidyanathan, a nadaswara vidwan.

Doesn't TMK share birthdays with Sanjay? Best wishes to both of them (belated as the case may be).

In the Jaya TV concert, someone asked Sanjay this question. You can hear for yourself in youtube. The gist of it is 'He thinks others ( media ) actually made it a bigger deal than what it is. He demonistrated a few elements he uses: the long kArvai in the thara sthayi and some quick swaras that are typical of a nadaswaram.'.

The link to the video ... I found his self-deprecating responses immensely charming!

Vasanthakokilam,

That was true. I was about to write that reference. Then I was not sure whether it was Vijay siva or Sanjay.

Another point, I wonder what is NOT there in Youtube.
