In general a recorded concert in All India Radio (AIR) is mostly not as great as a live concert . There may be few highs in the AIR concert , but overall there would be a feeling that every number that is sung is bit truncated . Shri Neyveli's concert was one of that kind where I came out with a feeling "why cant there may be more in main , why cant there may be more alApanai/swaras"

The start of the varnam and swaras in giriraja was good to very good. Reetigowlai alApanai was excellent but quite short with an excellent round up of poochi's krithi in praise of the bard. The bilahari alApanai was actually the main even though it came as a submain. Particularly enjoyed his neraval which was awesome in the line "gAndharva gAnalOlan gunaseelan thyagarAjan". The swaras in bilahari had almost 90% math round , it was too much of kanakku not interested me much .

The kAlanidhi krithi was just average as his voice had lot of restraint.Shri NeyVeli is one top class singer in keeravani. I thought I would feel the same in kaligiyuntE as what I have heard in few recordings of his keeravani (especially vAnanai). Shri neyveli came up with a beautiful 7 minute alApanai and superb renditon of krithi. Skipping neraval and going to swaras was fine , but his swaras were just too limited.

His darbAri kAnaDA was emotive (that was slightly drowned by little excessive strokes from bhakthavatsalam). neelAmbari was excellent .The last viruththam was very short and the vinayakuni had a lot of touch like Shri Tjr Shankara Iyer with swaras.

The concert was for just 1 hr and 55 minutes.Shri bhakthavatsalam played very good to excellent, did not overbang and I did see he kept the mike at a safe distance to suit neyveli's amplitude. But his tani was too long , it went for 22 minutes with his first round itself taking 10 and half minutes.I wished he had restrained his play. shri vv ravi had a lot of shruthi suddham but his reply's were tad slow.EMS played minimally and was just good.

Thank you Rajesh for your (ever refreshing) review. A cousin who had attended the concert called me and said that it was a great concert. The kiravANi he said was awesome. Then again, when it comes to musical knowledge, he only rates 'good' on Rajesh's scale of merit! Anyway, I could gather that the usual effect of an NSG concert, that of tranquility was there...
