"namipenayya TyagarajA amaragAna durandhara" in kadanakuthoohala, a composition of Veena Raja Rao.
Vidushi Nagavalli Nagaraj rendered this in a Detroit concert (October 2006). Also, Vidushi Veena Kinhal has rendered this (on veena) in her tribute CD to her Father and Guru Veena Rajarao.

I believe the tyAgarAja here is in reference to the presiding deity of the temple at tiruvArUr. dIkshitar has composed a vibhakti series on the same.

It is available at our Wiki site: http://www.rasikas.org/wiki/shrimad-kak ... alashtakam
Also, the nAmAvaLi of bangalore nAgaratnamma summarizing the life and times of the saint is also available: http://www.rasikas.org/wiki/tyagaraja-a ... tanamavali

THANKS kmr
can you explain shrotovahayati,?
gobilalitha

web source:

The syllables are arranged in such a manner that it resembles the flow of river (river origin and its broad course). So it is short at the begining and gradually becomes broad (Opposite to Gopucha yathi) at the end. This is called Srothovaka Yathi.

Hi Lakshman Uncle,

I have learnt it as follows:

ArO: SPM2PD2N2
ava: SN2D2PM2G3

P:
nAdabrahmA anurAgamE
naravarulaku sAyujyamu

AP:
vEdAntasAra vidyAdhara san-
gItAcAryA SRI tyAgarAjA

C:
bhavatAraka brahmamu rAma-
bhakti yOga sudhApAnAbhirAmA

SRI vAlmiki avatAruDau mI-
Su kRSNAnandAmbudhi sOma

There is a beautiful cittasvaram also - SRJ Mama presented this kriti recently in a thematic concert on rare ragas and rare kritis, accompanied by TK Murthy Mama and Sriram Parasuram.

Ashwin: That scale sounds interesting. If I just try to hum it or play some sequences based on the scale, it gives a sense of a combination of Hamsanadham and Saraswathi. Does the ragam 'nAdabrahmam' come close to such an idea? Also 'ga-sa-pa' combined with Ma2 on either end has some good melodic possibilites. I have not listened to any renditions in this raga.

My $0.02 - hamsanAdam and sarasvati have a dominant catuSruti RiShabha (absent in nAdabrahmam) and do not admit D2N2S in the ArOhaNam (prominent in nAdabrahmam). Perhaps closer similarities could be found with amritavarShiNi (SG3M2PN3 -- pUrvANgam, avarOhana krama) and vAcaspati (SR2G3M2PD2N2 -- uttarANgam). I think you're very correct about ga-sa-pa -- in fact, the phrase ga-sa-ni-sa-pa occurs frequently in the cittasvaram. Here is a clip (meena, it looks like I read your mind :))...

Nice. I first thought you referred to it as nAdabrahma (omitting some notes from from sarasvati), guess this a completely different rAga.
