one of the meanings of the word "hari" is gold. Harikesha means one who has golden hair ie Shiva . The epithet is found in Sri Rudram too. Shiva's matted locks are called red/ bronze/tawny and therefore "golden" is also appropriate, because when gold is burnished it is reddish.

Many different sources say it is Siva only. I wonder, then, why Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam chose to do a sanchari involving Vishnu and Ganesha in siddhi vinAyakam for "shrIda nivAsam shrta harikEsham."

While on the subject of muttayya bhAgavatar, I wondered whetehr the inferences to "balagiri," "baladri," or "mahAbalAdri" referred to the hill upon which the temple of cAmuNDAmba stands.
