Dr. Barbosa,

Do you have the lyrics to post, so that we can translate?

shankar

Priyadarsini Govind has performed this piece , its available in her commercial dvd- titled Bharatanatyam Sabdam, i have seen a short track of this on youtube.

Venuganane - Raga Malika - Misrachapu

Venu Ganane Kori enmanam, nadi nirkaiyil Modi seivathu Nyayama?
Sakhi nee ivvelaiyil modi seivadhu nyayama?

Antha migunthan en sontha Nathan pathaara vinthathu kinai koorida laguma?
Aravind malarum edaakuma?

Bharatha Kalai thani parava arul seitha
Paramanin thiru kumaranai-
Than marugan enum Thirumal thanai

Paravi pughandu paninthu maghiznthavar thiruvadi pugazh padi aadi paniguvom

Meena,

Thanks for the lyrics. I did make some corrections.

Dr. Barboza,

Here is my attempt at translating this Sabdam.

vENugAnanai – rAgamAlikA miSracApu

vENu gAnanai kOri en manam, nADi nirkaiyil mODi seivadu nyAyamA?
sakhI nI ivvELaiyil mODi seivadu nyAyamA?

My friend (sahki)! Is it fair (nyAyamA) for you (nI) to be deceitful (mODi Seivadu) at this time (ivvELayil)? At a time when, my (en) heart (manam) desires/yearns (kOri) for krishNa (vENu gAnanai – vENu = flute, gAnanai = one who creates music…one who creates music with his flute), with eager anticipation (nADi nirkayil).

anda migunda en sonda nAthan padAravindatirkiNai kOriDal AgumA?
aravinda malarum IDAgumA?

Can one desire (kOriDal AgumA) for anything other than lotus-like feet (padAravindam) of my (en) very own (sonda), Lord (nAthan) who is beauty personified (antamigunda – antam – beauty, migunda – endowed with an excess of)? Will even a lotus (aravinda) flower (malarum) be equal (IDAgumA) to him/his feet in beauty/softness?

bharatha kalai tanai parava aruL Seida
paramanin tiru kumaranai-
tan marugan enum tirumAl tanai
paravi pugazhndu paNindu maghizhndavar tiruvaDi pugazh pADi ADi paNiguvOm

Let us sing (pADi) and dance (ADi), and bow down in prayer (paNiguvOm) at the sacred feet (tiruvaDi) of the great souls who have experienced joyful exhilaration (magizhndu) by adoring (pugazhndu), praising (paravi) and praying (paNindu) to that (tanai) Lord, vishnU (tirumAl) who calls (ennum) the divine (tiru) son (kumaranai)[1] of the great Lord (paramanin) whose divine blessings (aruL Seida) have resulted in the spread (parava) of this dance form (bharatakalai tanai = bharatanATyam)[2] his (tan) nephew (marugan) [1].

[1] The term nephew of vishNu/mAl has been used to describe both muruga (for example, in the phrase mAl maruga muruga shaNmukhA guhA), and gaNapati (for example, in the SlOka - SrIkAntO mAtulO yasya...)
[2] Obviously a convulted way as any other to refer to the cosmic dancer, SivA

anu pallavi: iNai kURiDal AgumA?=Is it possible at all to speak of anyone equal to him? He is incomparable.

caraNam: paravi and pugazhndu (praise) mean the same. Repetition for emphsis, I suppose.

You can also read it as the son of one who was instrumental in spreading bharata kalai AND
tan maruagan enum tirumAl tanai=That vishNu who is proud to own murugan as his nephew.

Olga - I have corrected post # 4 with the full meaning - I assume that it what you are interested in. The post had become truncated in the migration to the new forum.

Vindisha - can you post the request as a separate topic? If Lji has the lyrics, I can try my hand at translating.
