Gayathri, accompanied by padma shankar on the violin, erode nagaraj on the mrudangam and chandhrasekara sharma on the ghatam, presented a bliss with krithis of dhIkshithar.

what made it interesting was, her disciples savitha, senthil, gowri and aparna sang along with gayathri with perfect cordination and it was a delightful harmony with the male voice giving a bass effect.

the bhAvA soaked renditions enveloped with vishrAnthi without slowing down the given tempo, brought colours and added impact to the concert.

I am posting the link of friday review [the hindu] for details of the other two concerts and song list.

A male voice! Could be avoided. I wouldn't like to hear a 'multi Shruthi ensemble' for Vishranthi..especially when the singers aren't that many in number.

it's not a multi sruthi ensemble... senthil ramani, sang in the same sruthi only....

Even then, I wouldn't prefer a male voice in a female group or vice versa, exceptions apart (like DKP and DKJ). My opinion. Somehow it doesn't gel.

Vasanthabhairavi: that is a very presumptuous thing to say. especially when someone did not attend the concert....

I have attended quite a few of this type and don't mean to say anything against this concert in particular. My opinion is of a general nature - pertaining to the gelling of male and female voices in such a recital.

VB does have a valid point... sometimes it's quite jarring when male and female voices are mixed. DKP/DKJ might be an exception but the ghastly expamples that spring to mind are KVN/Padma, Sriram Parasuram/Anooradha and of course the annual circus at Tiruvayyaru! :o
