kum prarthana.p.rao - vocal
sri.l.ramakrishnan - violin
kAlakkAdu sri.srinivasan - mrudangam
venue : Sri Krishna gana sabha
date : 17.2.08
time : 5-6 pm
here is the song list
1. hari nArAyana - kEdAram (Adi)
2. ikO namma swami - vEdavalli (Adi)
3. rAma rAma enniro - vasanthA (Adi tisram)
4. innu dhaya bhArathE - kalyAna vasantham (kanda chapu)
5. kandE nAA udipi sri krishna mam - sAramathi (Adi- main)
6. yAdhava nI bhA - hamsavinodhini - (Adi)
7. bhAgyathi lakshmi bhAramA - madhyamAvathi
an excellent concert attended by an unfortunately small but very appreciative audience... the selection of krithis was very good... it was very heartening to see the vocalist adopting the good old pathantara of open throated singing along with excellent diction...
the opening piece kEdAram came as a nice appetiser with some nice sanchArAs in it... the ikO namma swami kriti( vedavalli - janya raga of gowri manohari) was beautifully rendered...
initially i also mistook it 2 b gowri manohari but later corrected it wen a rasika clarified it with the singer...
i am somehow of the opinion that kalyAna vasantham brings out the best in her ( cos i hv heard her sing this in one of her previous concerts at ragasudha also) and i enjoyed the piece very
much...the sAramathi kriti ( rarely heard ...infact all kritis for dat matter) provided a refreshing change in dat already wonderful sunday evening...the violinist provided a good sketch
of the raga supporting the vocalist ably...
the thani following a brief exercise of swraprasthAram was very compact ( only pharans and mohra korvai)... although there was a time
constraint,, he cud hv played an avarthanam or two of gathi bEdham....
one intresting bit of information which she provided was that,, except bhAgyathi lakshmi bhAramA and innu dhaya bhArathE (tuned by vid. sri. T.K.Govinda Rao) all the other kritis was tuned by her guru vid. Chenglepet Sri.Ranganathan (hope i got the spelling right)

hmm i wonder at times as 2 what was wrong in using sms language when the review i wrote was clearly understandable..i thnk the whole point is 2 clearly convey one's thoughts.. i surely think using sms language for writing concert reviews isnt an insult to music by any thought.... ok i am neither trying to save time nor am a very busy man of sorts...its just a convinient way of typing adopted .. just bcos i used sms language and just for the sake of opposing (in the form of giving requests) dosent seem in good light...... ofcourse i didnt post the song list and the important stuff in sms style... did i??? wonder wat some ppl wil achieve by telling this

Atleast try to get the spelling of the songs right. sms language may be easy for you to type but pretty hard to read. Add to that your poor spelling for the songs , it is a double blow

I also strongly encourage poster to spell out words properly and not use SMS language. It is really annoying to read.
With respect to getting the spelling of the song correctly, that can be hard if one is hearing the lyrics for the first time. I am sure our fellow forumites will provide the corrections. ( of course without making too much fun of the poster

rajumds: That is a good suggestion and definitely it is recommened that people follow that.
On the other hand, we do not want to set the bar so high that people feel uncomfortable posting anything on starting lines of the songs in various CM languages. Getting the various flavors of ka, cha, ta, pa etc. right is not easy when the lyrics are in another language the first time. I realize there is quite a varied opinion on this...
