Me too not eligible for reviewing TMK's concert. But anyway my two cents.
1. Thanks to TMK for Mari mari ninne. This is the first time I am hearing this. Actually he has sung kamboji here two years back and wondering why kamboji again.
It was a pleasant surprise. But it was not a difficult guess (except for the option 'kanakankodi vendum' as Sivarathri is nearing) considering
the fact that alapana was (brilliant but) only 10+6 minutes including violin and it was 8.10pm already. After a sensational discussion in this website on the last season MA concert, I was actually waiting for the audio release from Rajalakshmi to hear this, but we got a chance to listen to it in live. Thanks again.
2. The second highlight was chenchuruti song. The alapana was very good from both TMK and SRK. And the harikamboji swaram and neraval was the usual
TMK bunch.
It was a totally a different concert planning from his usual format. It was a 'super super sunday' cosnidering two cricket match wins and then a great TMK concert.

Not that I'm any more qualified to 'review' a TMK concert, especially since I'm almost obsessed with his music, but here's my bit..
Krishna was equipped with a great team, and used it to great effect, springing many surprises. The varnam in Anandabhairavi was nice. I’ve rarely heard Janakiramana in concerts. He rendered the kriti emotively, and did brisk Svarakalpana. Junjooti was taken up in Madhyama shruti. There was a detailed alapana. The kriti of Mysore Vasudevacharya is one of my all-time favourites. He did neraval at ‘Karunaakaram haram chandrashekharam’. Both neraval and swaras were in the slow tempo only.
Both the Nayaki kriti and the rapid-fire one avartham swaras felt loud. He compensated immediately with a slow-paced Dikshitar kriti, preceded by alapana of Manoranjani. Neraval for Harikambhoji was at ‘Sheshudu shivuniki bhooshudu’. This was followed by fast swarakalpana too. Next, a request for Saramati was obliged with an elaborate alapana, and a moving kriti. He started with anupallavi [Sakshatkara] before coming to the pallavi.
The main raga for the day, Kambhoji, was taken up pretty late in the concert, by his standards. [He seems to be obsessed with Kambhoji these days]. A superb alapana was followed by the masterpiece, Mari mari ninne. I liked today’s rendition better than his Academy one, probably because I liked today’s accompaniments much better. RKS was so smooth and fluent throughout! And the camaraderie that TMK & RKS share adds quite a lot to the effect of the kutcheri..
There was neither neraval nor swaras for Kambhoji. Maybe this time was taken away by the Saramati request, or maybe he felt the kriti is fulfilling enough without further adornment…. Tani by Dorai and Udupa was brilliant. I understand absolutely nothing about the technicalities of percussion, but when Dorai plays, I enjoy it so much. His beats are so melodious, and so special-sounding.
Krishna was not done yet. He sent back the organiser who wanted to present the Vote-Of-Thanks, and sang a beautiful Behag, with Neraval and swaras here!! I’d heard from many people that he sings Nandagopala very well, and it was proved today. I loved the song!!

Sounds like a great concert. His Academy (accolades) kAmbhOji rendered again for the benefit of Bangalore listeners, it seems. Sowmya, equals your enthusiasm for his music you say, this kAmbhOji mood of his!
nanda gOpAla would have been so nice to hear, after many years (at least for me). Maharajapuram Santhanam
relished singing this.
And, what an ensemble of accompanists! Had it not been the other end of Bangalore for me, and my being busy with my getting ready to head back home, I would have made it to this takka pakka vAdyam kucERi.
After a splurge, many more months of waiting for me before I can hear a live concert...

All the songs were leisurely paced, except for Nayaki kriti. Chenchurutti in the beginning of the concert was surprise, as typically it is a practise to sing madhyama sruti ragas towards end. As a result tambura & violin had to be re-tuned before and after the song. May be, he didn't sing neraval & swaras for mari mari ninne because the kriti itself is grand with multiple sangathis for the pallavi. Also, brief mangalam was sung in Yamuna kalyani itself after the song...

Yes Indeed. TMK was in 2 minds about taking up that request. he said that just now i thought of something. When he decided to take it up, he said he will keep it short . So this is the prelude to the wonderful saramathi.rajaglan wrote:I didnot realise that saramathi was a request.
Also, earlier in the day Smt Suganya (not 100% sure about the name though)made her debut concert in bangalore. She is daughter of DKJ.

Sukanya did sing before TMK's concert. When i came, she was singing Mohanam, and the song was Kapali. She sang few more items, like Nekkurugi in Abhogi, Maha deva siva sambho in Revathi, Maname kanamum maravade in Navroj, Karpagame in Madhyamavathi, etc. Sorry, i don't have complete song list. Is she not performing these days in chennai? I haven't seen her name in the concert circles.
