MBK,

Here is my attempt....I am eager to hear what the punDits have to say!

P: bhO shambhO shiva shambhO svayambhO

Hail to Siva (SambhO), the one who was self created (svayambhO)!

A: gangAdhara shankara karuNAkara mAmava bhavasAgara tAraka

Bearer of gangA (gangAdhara), Oh auspicious one (Sankara), bestower of compassion (karuNAkara), the one who will row us across the ocean of life (bhava sAgara tAraka)! Please protect me (mAm ava)!

C1: nirguNa parabrahma svarUpa gamAgama bhUta prapanca rahita
nija guhanihita nitAnta ananta Ananda atishaya akSayalinga

Placed in a cave (guha nihita) as an extraordinary (nitAnta), never ending (ananta), joyful (Ananda), imperishable/permanent (akshaya), and pre-eminent (atiSaya) linga, you take the form (svarUpa) of the supreme being (parabrahma) whose character is beyond description (nirguNa). You are outside of/separate from (rahita) this universe (prapanca) that forms and dissolves (bhUta gamAgam).

2: dhimita dhimita dhimi dhimikiTa kiTatOm tOm tOm tarikiTa tarikiTakiTa tOm
matanga munivara vandita Isha sarva digambara vESTita
vESa nitya nirantara nrtya naTEsha Isha sabEsha sarvEsha

Clad (vEsha) in garments (ambara) composed of the different directions (dik) that prevail/surround (vEshTita) everything (sarva), you are the Lord (ISA) who is extolled (vandita) by the sage (muni) matanga [1]. Oh Lord (ISA), Lord of everything (sarvESA), Lord of dance (naTESA), Lord of the cit sabhA (sabhESA), you dance (nritya) daily (nitya) and perpetually (nirantara) to the solkaTTu dhimita dhimita dhimi dhimikiTa kiTatOm tOm tOm tarikiTa tarikiTakiTa tOm.

[1] Is matanga muni the same as the fisherman, mAtanga? pArvati, as his daughter, acquires the name mAtnagI.

In kALidAsa's SyAmaLa daNDakam, there is a verse:

mAtA marakataSyAmA mAtangI madaSAlinI |
kuryAt kaTAkSam kalyANI kadamba vanavAsinI ||
jaya mAtanga tanayE, jaya nIlOtpaladyutE |
jaya sangIta rasikE, jaya lIlASuka priyE ||

Bravo shankar! A nice inspired translation of the lyric of Svami Dayananda. You have captured not just the word-meanings but the spirit of this excellent lyric!
Just note that in 'gamAgama bhUta prapanca rahita ' the first two words are adjectives qualifying the third word viz., prapanca (the universe) which happened (bhUta) and is gama+agama ( comes and goes). In other words 'You are outside (rahita) or separate of this universe that forms and dissolves.
Also note 'sarva' means in addition 'Siva'. This whole verse is a string of epithets formed of the different names of shankara :) himself...

Congrats VK Raman!
You have done a magnificent job. Keep singing CM and that will strengthen your heart! Especially 'antakAntaka' (killer of Yama) will never permit the antaka to tie his noose around your heart !

Thanks CML! (vasishThar vAyAla....) :P

I have edited the meaning to reflect your correction.

Any comments on matanga muni vs. mAtanga?

Shankar you are on the mark!
If you are interested the story from Mahabharata is narrated at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matanga
Matanga was a great devotee of Siva and was blessed by him to have parvati as his daughter. Hence the name 'mAtangI'. In spite of these mAtangi (pArvatI) is still considered an 'untouchable' :)
There is a temple (in Kerla(?) or Srilanka (?) where the pUja to the Goddess is performed only by a person of the untouchable caste (Pl mention that to kalaignar in connection ith the archaka issue :)

You may also remember sugriva (in Ramayana) taking refuge near the asharam of matanga wherein he was safe from vaaali since vaali was cursed by matanga for polluting his residence with the carcass of the asura 'dhundhubi', as not to go near that area!

The first item in this presentation of Smt. Priyadarshini Govind is bhO shambhO. The vocalist is Smt. Preethi Mahesh.

http://sangeethamshare.org/ramasundaram ... d_BNatyam/

The presentation also highlights the dancer's penchant for using bijAkSara mantrams instead of the usual solkaTTus for jatIs in some segments. I just felt that the recording had introduced a time lag between the video and audio - the dancer's movements seem to anticipate the singer instead of being simultaneous or the other way around.

The last piece was the tour de force IMO!

An awesome presentation of this composition - a very commendable effort at bringing out the cosmic energy.

The kicks are so awesome - powerful, yet graceful.

As found in the thread it is Swami Dhayananda Saraswatrhi which has been mentioned by cmlover in post num. 5 of this thread.
