Dear Rasikas
I just read an article about renovation of the houses of the trimurthis. And an idea stuck.
How about a gang visit to Thiruvaroor? Rasikas who can join can come along. I have been travelling to Tiruvaroor quiet frequently now and I personally feel that anyone with the smallest connection with carnatic music should go to Thiruvaroor often. We have a couple of good hotels where in we can book rooms for a day's stay. The plan ideally would be to leave on a saturday and reach Tiruvaroor on a sunday morning. Check in to hotel - Temple visit - visit the houses of the trinity(those who wanna sing or play are welcome) - temple visit again (the temple is huge. So we would need time. In fact, dikshitar has sung about most of the dieties there and a lot of things can be said about Dikshitar and the temple) - check out - and leave by Sunday evening.
Please let me know your suggestions and thoughts about this.

Well me & Cool had been thinking about such trips for a long time.
1. A 2 day visit to temples around Tiruvarur / Kumbakkonam in a comfortable vehicle loaded with music. If some of the performing members join a live session on the kritis dedicated to these temples.
2. A 1 day visit to Chidambaram & back by road.
3. An evening visit to Kanchipuram
In fact some of the best concert experiences for me where when driving to Kanchipuram & back with Kulkarni.
Definitely an idea to think about.
Of course Aradhanai is round the corner.

A friend of mine has stated that the Rama Moorthy worshipped by Thyagaraja is available at Tanjavur and he has given me the address also. I have been planning to go there. Can this be included in itinerary? I quote the relevant portion of email received by me from Mr Swaminathan Narayanan from Muscat.
Is it possible to plan the trip after Pongal? The address where Rama worshipped by Saint Thyagabrahmam resides is 1407 - Varagappa iyer la ne, South main street, Thanjavur. Current head of the house is also known by the name Thia garajan. It is easy to guess that every alternate generation you will find Thyagarajan and Seethamaha lakshmi in the family. Most carnatic musicia ns of yester years always went there from Thiruvaiyaru (after the aradhana) and sang a few songs before they left home. The divine vibrations can be felt even today.

I am game too - subject to dates of course...prefer to avoid the Aradhana as it is anything but one...26/27 sounds good to me too....hope we can put together a quorum....I may have a car to spare but can't say for sure right now since parents will need to shuttle to/from B'lore sometime this month
Guess that's 4 on boards...about 8-10 would be a comfortable no...Venkat, can you estimate the cost on that basis so that rasikas could decide. If required, I could do this too....
Thiruvarur/Nagapattinam/Chidambaram/Tarangambadi would be great...we could stop over at Tranquebar at TTDC's hotel by the beach...

Hello Everyone, I just came across this thread today. It would be really nice if these type of tours arranged in Summer time, the kids from around the world can also join and learn. Of course, i am talking about the kids who are learning music... I wish i could join....
Coolji, Is it possible? Same way, our Rasikas concerts during the Summer would be nice too.

It is varadappier street if I recollect. I had the unique opportunity to go alongwith SKA.Chingleput Ranganathan to the house and render a few kritis together during puja time..He is one such guru who invariably takes their students to the saint's house in Thirumanjana veedhi in Tiruvaiyaru and render kritis during Aradhana (where the vibration is felt even a shade better compared to singing in samadhi-my personal experience!)thanjavooran wrote:The panchaloka vigraham worshipped by the Saint is with the descendent family at vahappier lane in southmain street , thanjavoor.

my maternal grandfather is from Thiruvayaar and had an ansestral home in Thanjavoor during summer vacation we had the bhagayam of visiting Tanjavoor and when as an adult again had the grace to visit the divine street where Saint Thygarajha's family (not sure if they told that they were from the saint's wife side) who still worship the divine vighraham. Enroute to Thiruvayaar we visited both these places and it behoves humans in this earthly sojourn in this shariram visit and meditate there.
As the shruti vakyas in Upanishads state "yatho vacho nivartanate" no words can justify or even capture if one is graced to visit all these divine places on mother earth where sages bless all and one.

Re: A Visit To Thiruvarur
I visited Tiruvarur recently. After a great darsan at the temple in the evening I walked around the streets hoping to hear some carnatic music emanating from any of the houses. But most residents were engrossed in the TV serials. The shops were of course airing film songs. I asked a group of local youth to know if any music Vidwan was residing in the area. They pleaded ignorance! Perhaps I did not visit the 'musical centre' of the town. Could anyone guide?

Sivaramakrishnan,
Yes, there are local musicians and musically inclined who live in the town even if not a great many of them. In the 1996-2001 timeframe during my annual visits to the Dikshitar Jayanti program (since a group from Coimbatore was conducting the program then, I tagged along) , I met someone who taught classes to kids there. I also met another local person who sang Tyagaraja Mahadhvajaroha in shrI , several years before this kRti resurfaced in Chennai due to the initiatives of Guruguhaanjali. (not withstanding how the person sang it was a great experience
to hear this kRti there). I cannot recall any names now.
