This was a really lovely lady, a torchbearer of authenticity and a fount of knowledge delivered to students with love and affection. I learnt gurulEkha eTuvaNTi in 2004 from pATi and was just ready to start the next krithi when illness meant I had to leave Chennai urgently. I spoke with pATi after recuperating but did not have the pleasure of meeting her after that.
I will never forget the beautiful expression of 'tEjas' on her face as she sang and played vINa. Some wonderful renditions of hers that I had the privilege of listening to in her Alwarpet home - siggumAli [kEdAragauLa], parihAsakamA [vanaspati], CEDE buddhimAnurA [aTANA], mAm ava satatam [jaganmOhini], CAlu CAlu [sAvEri] and the asAvEri navagraha krithi.
A great loss for the word of music. My condolences to the family.
