the lyrics and notation I got from Sri Lakshman says iRangAdEnayya - actually irangAdEnayya - I am now confused by Ra vs. ra here. I think it should be Ra

Now both renditions i have says iRangAdadEnayya. Both are equivalent, but any information as to which was the original? Lakshman is your notations from PS's trust (or from his daughter etc.)?

Actually you also see irangu (#1,#2), which means weeping/crying and sound etc.

The book I have is Kirtana Malai, published by Rukmini Ramani. 1980 edition. The line is cittam irangAdEnayyA ...

cittam iranguvadu in this context I think refers to 'to feel pity' and not coming down/descend - sort of like manam kanindu...

I see irangu (under 1st entry), meaning mercy/compassion exactly what that applies here.

Yes it is 'iranguvadu' and not 'iRanguvadu'.
The composition -'nee irangAyenil pugalEdu' is an example
If we use
'Ra'- iRanaguvadu means coming down as in a series of steps.-'iRakkam'-means slide downwards
'ra'- 'iranguvadu' means showing pity,compassion-'irakkam'
eg. the song 'irakkam varAmal pOnadenna kAraNam'

The ra-Ra make a big difference in Tamil. Sanskrit has no such problems!

Sanskrit may not have problems with ra and Ra but there is no character for short o (okapari ...) or short ae (eduTa nilacitE). These sounds are always dhIrga.
