Two incidents, one in a Neiveli SG's performance and another in Pandit Ravishankar's performance. once a leading tamil magazine reported(probably kindal, sly humour),neiveli's concern for the violinist should be seen to believe.. . after finishing the alapana, he was seen fanning to the violinist by swaying his angavastra for the comfort of the violinist who was sweating profusely. later on SG reported that the fanning was because an insect, probably a bee was disturbing the violinist by circling round his neck, and as he was using both the hands in bowing,he had to use his angavastram to drive the insect away.
nearly50 years back, in the music season,the music academy would arrange a programme of Pandit Ravi shankar on the night of decdember31st,every year in the posh new auditorium of music academy, at the stroke of midnight 12, he would just stop for a few minutesand convey his new year greetings , which gesture would be appreciated by the joyous crowd by a vigorous hand clapping,then ALLAH rakha would respond with his beats. now comes the incident. one year a small snake entered the hall and the frightened crowd began to run helterskelter. then Ravishankar said , please do not harm it , it has also got a right to live in this world. Was any of the forumites present in the auditorium. the yearmust be in the early60s gobilalitha

let me continue with my starting subject. nowadays we find many cricketers smearing their faces with colored ointments,repellantc etc, making them look like rakshasas, to frighten the oppositeside players. a perfect example being Symon ds of Australia..suppose our musiciansalso follow suit to escape the nuisance of insects from the glaring lights!!!! what about an artist's conception? I think after reaching Singapore, enjoying my stay in this heavenly city stateand the hospitality of myson and family, I have started poking my bulbous nose(coutesyLalitha) daily inthe forum discussions

gopilalitha - you will find that 'rakshasa' Andrew Symonds uses sunscreen on his face, not insect repellent! You might have noticed that some Indian players like Sreesanth has also followed suit!

Those rasikas who have attended to kutcheris at the outdoor auditorium used by Hamsadhwani would be advised to bring along the Odomos!

Very true! Or put up with the passing gale of the swinging fans --- which I hate worse than mosquitoes!

I remember my first Indian mosquito. Us travellers, as I was then, have the dangers of malaria etc drummed in to us so much that I was expecting some monsters; I was quite disappointed to see a normal-size mossie!

I remember my first big Indian cockroach too: that was courtesy of a sabbha toilet!

I wish I could appreciate the poetry, but have only myself to blame for that. At least today I have a score of ONE POINT as I recognise the tamil for 'snake'. Aha! TWO points! I see that kosu is there too

Why there are no mosquitoes in London?

Because they were damn scared! They heard that the Terrorists were seeking and collecting 'pAMbu' (Bomb in english) to kill innocents and they thought Chennai was relatively safe, especially the Music Halls where they would be coddled with divine 'punnaagavaraaLi'

Why did Nick leave London for Chennai ?
Obviously he was missing the 'music' of the mosquitoes and the cuddliness of the 'pAMbu'

Coincidentally CML , in todays newspaper there was an article about how Global Warming would in the years to come make London a haven for Mosquitoes and malaria.

Moses created snake with his walking stick. Lord Shiva carried snake on his shoulder. Snake is sacred and this is why it moved from London and found its place in India and particularly, Chennai.

Come come, London bashers! You should not forget that Nick comes from there--surely, you can't blame a place which offers to Chennai and to the forum such a nice person like him!
While he is very fond of Chennai, just try starting him off on sabha toilets! We may actually need it as the season nears. We could join him and help keep the sabha officials on their toes in maintaining sanitation and sanity among rasikAs...

We have both snakes and mosquitoes in London, but, thankfully no malaria, other than freak cases, yet.

And for me recently, with the new family, it has been much more catcheris than kutcheris!

Now look at GBL who has started singing the eulogy for Singapore. But I will bet his heart is still in Bangalore. Bangalore perhaps can beat Chennai in Air Pollution but never in Mosquito population and CM Sabhas. (not that there is more quality CM in Chennai but because Chennai has more breeding opportunity for the CM-trained-Mosquitoes
