Kannda-Maruva...wonder what the strcuture of that raga is...a mixture of carnatic kannada and hindustani marwa?

Thank you sir...I guess they would be the same since Rishabham is the only diff b/w the two scales, and the note is varja in the raga...

Marva (the raag not the thaat) is of course Hamsananadhi which falls under Mela 53 and Kannada and except for madhyamam, the other notes are the same as Kannada so I suppose the name makes sense!

In fact, before the concert started, Shashikiran announced that since they are in Canada he will start with kAnaDA. I guess he followed it up with the general theme of some kannaDa... ragas.

That is hilarious.
It is nice to see Kannadagowla outside the realm of the usual kritis.

thanks for the songlist, Lji.

I am sorry I do not know the technical details of pallavi singing. Someone else will have to provide an answer to this.

I also posted the incomplete pallavi line. It should have read:
tiruvaDi sharaNam enru nAn nambi vandEn dEvAdi dEvanE.

The pallavi was set as we were walking to the stage by Eashwaran Mama. FYI.

Perhaps you can answer the question asked by yours_truly about aridhi.
