Evening of Saturday, April 5th.

I'm new to the community- I look forward to participating more now that I'm a member.
I'd gone to Sri Shiva Vishnu temple over in DC for Sri Sreevalsan Menon's kacheri two days ago. As you can see, there's a lot that I had trouble identifying. Hopefully I'll get better. I also recorded the kacheri, if anyone's interested. Please also correct any mistakes below:

Can you upload the recording in Rapidshare? Is it a single large file or individual files for each krithi? Are they in MP3 format?

Unfortunately it's one large file, but it's in mp3.

Kalyani,

Welcome to the forum, and to the band of reviewers.

You can't upload full concerts on the forum, so please don't offer/ask!

A few corrections apparent to me:

#8: akSaya linga vibhO svayambhO
#9: pallavI should be 'gOvindanaDi mukundanaDi enakkE ava(n)r sondam aDI'
#14: bhAgyada lakSmI bArammA

A couple of questions:
1. What is patyaar rAga?
2. What language was song # 12 in?

And, please do post your views and review of the concert!

More about the kacheri:

Overall, it was fairly good.
Sreevalsan Menon's sruthi suddham, clear voice, and exact enunciation of words were extremely pleasing to the ears. His Sankarabharanam alapana was very good, and his Bhairavi alapana was okay- very standard. I personally also felt that he needed more variety (at least I felt this) when ending his kalpana swarams, and he could use a little more bhaavam in singing (?)

The violinist was very good overall, although he took a little while to get warmed up. His Bhairavi raagam development was well done.
Rajna was good as usual, with an amazing thani avarthanam.

I look forward to attending another kacheri- Sikkil Gurucharan- next week. Will post on that also.

Thank you for your corrections- I really appreciate it.
1- Patyaar raga is a hindustani ragam, just like chandrakauns. I have pretty much no clue about it, but I know it is rarely used/sung in classical carnatic kacheris.
2- Shree Guruvayoogure Vilayaadum was in Malayalam

Also, would it be allowed for me to upload the kacheri on rapidshare and post the link here (as mentioned above)?

Oops..
Thanks, and sorry.
I wasn't sure how it was spelt. When I asked Sreevalsan Menon which ragam he had sung, it sounded like he said 'paatyaar', thus the mistake.

The violinist was none other than HKN, the father of HN Bhaskar (Parur style). He lives with the Swaminathan family for several months in a year to train Rajna's younger sister, like what they did with UKS, I believe.

And no, you shouldn't post the music in any form. Technically, you aren't allowed to record that concert, since the temple makes CD's of their concerts and sells them to cover the costs of bringing him.

- Sorry, I didn't know that. I'll delete the recording.
