A friend of mine visited me in Washington DC from LA. She attended the TNS Hari Katha. She mentioned that the Ms. Radha Iyer President of the Music Academy in LA mentioned that Sri Ramabhadran was very ill and requested all rasikas to pray for his good health. Can someone post an update on Shri Ramabhadran's health

Ramabhadran sir is one of my favorite mridangists, having been a "permanent" accompanist for my yet another idol, Sri MMI. Recently my anna Easwaran had the previlege of playing along side him in the recently concluded Cleveland festival. In one of his conversations with me, Easwaran mentioned in in this connection that he is a "romba punyam pannierukken". My family offers our sincere prayers for Sri Ramabhadran sir's full recovery. Regards

Yes, Ramabhadran sir had an attack of pneumonia and was unable to accompany TNS last Sunday for the harikatha. He was hospitalized and then discharged, I think he is still at Vinod Venkatraman's house recovering (father of violinist Aishu Venkatraman who has been discussed here many times before). I pray for his recovery and his speedy return to the music scene.
That is the thing with these foreign tours. Like TNS sir told me, one needs a very strong constitution to be able to do one of these, as the strain from travelling, sleeping at odd hours due to time differences, and breathing recycled cabin air on the plane can all combine to make one fall ill very easily. I find it amazing that very senior vidwans like Ramabhadran sir, RK Srikantan, and others are able to travel like this and maintain their health. This is probably due in part to the strict saatvic lifestyle they all lead.
