Purnashadjam is also one of karaharapriya's many fine janyas. purnashadjam is very close to the ragam rudrapriya, again one of khpriya's janya.

Purnashadjam:
Aro: s r2 g2 m1 n2 n2 S
ava: S n2 p m1 g2 r2 s

i had first heard the hyderabad brothers render " lAvaNya rAmA" composed by shri thyagaraja, then learned it as the raga was mesmerising. i had then heard " gaNanAyakam" composed by shri muttuswami dikshithar which was rendered by padmashri mandolin U. Shrinivas on the mandolin. it is very melodious to hear.

in the following link, you can hear the audio version of U.Shrinivas ji rendering gana nayakam:

in this link you'll find the video version of padmashri U.Shrinivas playing gananayakam:

hope you all enjoy it!

I heard Hyderabad Brothers singing 'Lavanya Rama' in San Jose concert as one of the tukkadas. It was beautiful. I will try to upload that to Youtube if I can get their permission.

thankyou heynarayana,

That would be much appreciated. Purnashadjam is such a powerful raga, that you could listen to it as many times as possible.

I have a cassette of the hyderabad brothers in which they've sung lavanya rama. It pulled my ears into listening to it so many times that I grasped the song quite drastically.

cheers, Samrakshana

sammukeshav : Can you be more clearer as to the differences between rudrapriyA and pUrNashaDjam? I ask because by my listening, the tune of "gaNanAyakaM" and "ShrI mAnini manOhara" seem to be identical in tune(except the latter has an extra line in the pallavi).

Rudrapriya's arohanam is karaharapriya therefore, it has chathushruthi dhaivatham in the arohanam. The avarohanam is the same as purnashadjam.

rudrapriya: s r2 g2 m1 p d2 n2 S , S n2 p m1 g2 r2 s

TM Krishna sang an RTP in Purnashadjam at Washington DC in 2004. Since the CD is sold by SSVT, I don't feel comfortable uploading it.
