Yes. The Thillana was composed by Sangeetha Rathna Mysore T Chowdiah, in honor of his guru Shri Bidaram Krishnappa and the Prasanna Seetha Rama Mandiram that Shri Krishnappa built with his hard earned money and donations from rasikas in those days.kmrasika wrote:rAgam : sahAnA tALa: Adi Composer: D. cauDaiyya

Also there is a slight correction to Charana as follows:
change
c. nannu brOcuTaku idE samayamurA sannutAnga ShrI prasanna ShrIrAma
To
c. nannu brOcuTaku idE samayamurA sannutAnga ShrI prasanna SeetharAma
Shri Bidaram Krishnappa named the Rama Manidram he built as "Shree Prasanna Seetha Rama Mandira". Shri Chowdiah garu composed the thillana in honor of his guru and the Prasanna Seetha Rama Mandiram.
The sanctum sanctorum on the west side of the hall was built with a large and extremely beautiful oil painting of Shri Rama Pattabhishekam with Lord Ramachandra and Seetha surrounded by Lakshmana, Bharatha, Shatrugna and Anjaneya, painted by Shri Krishna Rao of Mysore.
Last year when State of Karnataka awarded the "Kanaka Purandara award" to Prof. Ramarathnam, they also gave him a purse with Rs 100,000.00 Prof. Ramarathnam donated the proceeds from the award to the restoration of the of the paintings and the structure, during his 91st birthday celebrations at the Rama Mandiram in December 2007. Following his lead his family also collected fiunds to the tune of $10,000 (US) from rasikas in US and other places. For those of you who enjoy such historical sites, a visit to Mysore and the Rama Mandiram on Narayana Shastry Road is a rewarding experience.

Thanks, Ravi. And thank you SSK for the background info and beautiful pics. As for the lyrics, I am almost certain Sri Ramarathnam sings "ShrirAma," but maybe this is not the original. Either way, not really an issue for choreography.

Let me look through many books of Prof. Ramarathnam in my collection and start tagging Shri Bidaram's compositions. Prof. Ramarathnam authored over 15 books since mid 1960's in Kannada such as Sangeetha Darpana, Keerthana Darpana (vols 1 & 2), and other major books which are still being used as text books at graduate and post graduate level. I am suspecting I will find some in there. I would not mind sharing them with those interested.

SSK,
Are all of Sri Ramaratnam's books still available in stores? I had the Sangeeta Darpana, and another volume with a large number of kritis ( I forgot the name of the book though) back in India.
I want to buy and keep them with me if they are still available. ( I hope they will be at Vedanta book house, if at all the copies are available).

I found two compositions of Shri Bidaram Krishnappa, in a book by Prof. Mysore V. Ramathanam released as a part of 91st birthday celebrations in Mysore last December.. I will post the Pallavi and AnuPallavi lines for these two compositions tommorow (forgot to bring the book with me today)..SSK wrote:I am sure BIdaram has composed. May be Sri Lakshmanji can provide some insights from his vast collection.
