Kji,

Good one!

I would observe that not only do we, as as individuals, have hugely different capacities for humour, extending from zero all the way up, but we also have an enormous variety of different kinds of humour; they are not always compatible!

But we get by, and we get on...

And perhaps VGV is right that we shouldn't start straight in with the humour!

But, hey, there we go! ;)

MP,
Welcome, and you have one of the simplest forum names to type. Just look at some of our names here. Apart from long names (which get initialized eventually), there are spellings that are difficult to remember and to type!

Perhaps those who pun should be punished?

Hi everyone. Though I have been active in this community I have never really made a formal introduction about myself. I'm a rasika like everyone here and benefitting a lot from knowledgable rasikas in this forum. Currently I'm pursuing my doctoral studies in USA. When in India I was fortunate to have had formal training in carnatic music (flute) from Vid B Shankar Rao, Bangalore.

Well, you will have to go to puNNiya sthalas, spend time with puNDits, learn the ragam punnagavarali - and stop being puNNy overall!

Rituals better than pun? Or, is it a funster's way of punning while bashing 'punishable' punsters?
Doctor's orders: don't indulge in pun when the fun in it is taken away...

Nick ..
Probably it means that a Pun can be used as a prop or as an ornament..End Effect is the same.
Very much the way,MDR addressed this Issue in his composition...

The pun virus has taken over the site and even Cool's trying to elevate the status of the word does not seem to work in some cases.
When the 'natives' play around with english, why not an englishman, says morsing bhAgavatar (Rajesh's name for him)!

At least here, I trust we're safe from the terrible travelling fish-name puns that attack English sites occasionally. I may carp about them, but there is plaice for them here.

And should it continue, I won't understand the names anyway.

I MEEN to say....

Punarvasu,
Thanks for correcting me. Happy to know you are my kind, though you call me vaSishTar (which is not fitting in the meritorial sense either).
Waiting for the real vaSishTar (CML) to join in....

hi jayantasri! yes i was a student of vocal music.now i am being busy with my hunt for cracking the civils. by the way is your favourate ragam, jaynathasri? i am an ardent devotee of BHAIRAVI. Its an unexplicable joy that one experiences a delightful'raksha bettare' or a 'balagopala'. The rishabha and gandhara sung in upper register in bhairavi is a total bliss.

VKR,
It is not 'upacAra mUlanu' - it is 'upacAramulanu'
In a parallel thread we were discussing about artists paying royalty for the kRtis sung.
The greatest royalty that one can pay is to at least understand the meaning and sing it with proper diction.
Music is not just sa-ri-ga-ma-pa-dha-ni - It is only a tool to express a bhAva.
