This was a concert arranged by ramjee's isai mazhalai. All the 3 performers are young .Kum BrindA started excellently with the kalyani varnam , her voice was really well settled . A rare shrI ganeshAtparam in Ardradesi gave more shruthi sense and gave a flying start to her concert.
A fairly elaborate bilahari alApanai followed with perhaps not so great krithi and swaras . Who sings vijayanAgari nowadays, considering this vidushi is just into 1st year of college , perhaps it was impressive demonstration of her confidence .The alApanai of vijayanAgari was not distinct had quite a few piDis of dharmavathi , I for sure could not make up my mind . But her rendition of vijayAmbike was top class , I heard for the first time 2 rounds of cittaswaras (not heard from mi-tvs-suryaprakash school where they dont sing cittaswaras which is my frame of reference)apart from the usual racy and excellent swaras.
The next krithi in bowli was in sharp contrast in pace to the previous vijayAnAgari , she sang quite well in vilambakAlam mode . A rare devamanOhari followed which was just good with a nice round of swarams . The main was very elaborate 12 minutes of alApanai in cArukEsi followed by 6 minutes of violin return. The krithi rendition was just okay, with good neraval .But what followed after that was the best of the concert .She sang 18 minutes of swaras, stunning display of manOdharmam , her voice never sagged the swaras just unfolded beautifully.
Her diction in thamizh was excellent in the viruththam starting from the drowsy behAg to ever expressive brindAvana sArangA , her lift in the viruththam in second half and landing in the anupallavi line of sakthivel murugan in brindAvana sAranga was very very aesthetic. eppaDi pAdinarO was bit different from what one usually hears from maharAjapuram santhAnam, nevertheless presented quite well.
The next viruththam was not that great in musical excellence , she rounded up well in ever green karpagamE. The last in shyamA?? was just good. Perhaps there was little excessive overdose of thamizh in tukkadas. The violinist Srividya Iyer played just good in return , at quite a lot of places her violin was bit squeaky. THe mridangist puneet was quite good , used quite a lot of thoppi, his tani was just good.
Overall brinda appeared to have an extremely gifted voice with solid swara kalpana delivery. On a side note , I was thinking if there would be a long and boring introduction or interruption praising these teenagers. Thankfully nothing happened ,all three went up the stage and just before the start gave a brief introdution . Her cArukEsi swarakalpana still rings in my ears, perhaps one day looking forward to hear a more immaculate T's AdamOdi galadE than this ST krithi. There was nothing junior about the concert only the hall was junior
