I don’t want to write another of my impressions of this concert. What happened last time is still fresh in my mind. There is no wish on my part to cause another torrent of letters. I enjoyed the concert very much. Yamuna Kalyani alone, sung towards the end, was the icing on the cake for this family trip I was making.

Just a couple of points. The Great Lakes Aradhana committee conducted a day long Thyagaraja Aradhana, before TMK’s main event at 3:30 pm. Though I could get to Flint only around 2 pm, I managed to hear some of the boys and girls sing Thyagaraja kritis. The teachers and the parents have to be congratulated. The talented kids gave a remarkable performance. A great day for Carnatic music.

Since Krishna’s concert started soon after the children’s event, we were all sitting in the auditorium (packed house). It took about 3-4 min for the sound system to be fine tuned. Nobody complained, or seemed to mind. They were seated very quietly, as if the concert was in progress.

Trichy Sankaran Sir was in the front row. Krishna made a short statement before the vote of thanks by the organizers. It was to the effect, if I remember right, that the trio of artists on stage were privileged to be performing in the presence of Sankaran Sir, and that they were very appreciative of him coming all the way from Toronto to attend the concert.

Very good review. This is the first time I attended TM Krishna's concert. I liked the fact that he spent a few minutes tuning/adjusting the mikes and I really liked his singing a few swaras - it just added to the anticipation and I could hear his voice in clear pure terms. I heard TM Krishna's rendering of Krishna Nee begane baaro and I was hoping that he will sing that and much to my enjoyment he sang MD's Nandagopala and it was such a phenomenal performance. The ease with which he can navigate the spectrum of swaras and pitches is simply superb. That song alone was worth the entire concert. One could easily visualize MD on the banks of Yamuna and envisioning Shri Krishna's presence. It was majestic and a total confluence of music and divinity at their best. As usual GLAC did a terrific job in organizing the day's events. Thanks to them every one had a lovely lunch. Good introductory and other speeches by the organizers. In fact TMK said that the introduction was the most entertaining opening remarks that he heard in the last couple of months while touring in USA. Memorable day indeed. Big thanks to all you folks. God Bless.

Hi

What a list ? Grandiose indeed a treat for the listeners as well as for accompanists to explore the nuances of raga and laya. Best wishes to Krishna and Team for the rest of the tour.

Tandai Thai irundal ? then it is --> Shanmukhapriya- Adi Gopalakrishna Bharathi

M.M.Goulai; VegavAhini; Dhenuka; Kharaharapriya; Natakurunji; Shankarabharanam; Kalyani; Y.Kalyani - IMHO not a good combo.

odd and different are Sudha Dhanyasi & Surati.

people differs in tastes too.

Hello Mridhangam,

It was not Tandai Thai irundal (Shanmukhapriya). I would have recognized it right away.

It takes skill and great vidvat to handle such a list effectively. Kudos to Sri TMK especially for taking up the criminally undersung mummUrtulu.

There are at least four tandai tAis!
Two in mukhAri (one by PS).
one sung in kuRinji (rAmalinga swAmigaL)
The shanmkhapriyA one by PonniaiyyA PiLLai.
There is also a tandaiyum tAyum in kApi by kOvai subramaNiam.
There could be more...

'Thandai Thai' was a virutham - I recall hearing a mention of 'thAyumAnavan' in the concluding lines...
