Dear Rasikas,

The birth anniversary of Sunaadha Vinodhan, Shri. Tanjore SKR was celebrated by Shanmugapriya and SKR Trust.
The Navarathanamalika sthothram of Saint Adi Sankaracharya was rendered beautifully with a live orchestra led by Sri. HMV Raghu. It was a surprise to know that Anuradha Sriram, the popular Cine singer was a disciple of the legend SKR. It was followed by a Documentary ( editied version of 23 minutes – original version 85 minutes.) It was conceptualized and well documented, (a must see for the younger generation) by Sri. S.B. Kanthan, the brother of Ace Director and Actor Sri. Mouli, followed by M/s Malladi Brothers concert. By the way did any one attend the concert…?

saahyaa.

The concert started too late - at about 8 PM and I lost the enthusiasm to stay on and left after just one song.

:) True, the concert was scheduled to begin at 7:20 but the felicitation stretched too long.

I attended the concert. As said earlier , the show went off for long, though all the eminent guests spoke brilliantly well The whole programme was a delayed start. Hence the concer started almost at 8 or 8.15p.m.

Since i went for a coffee break, i missed, the first song. Thereafeter i heard the following:

Thyagarja Paalayasu - swarams ( Arabhi)?
Devagandahari - karuna Samudra Rama
Lokavana chatura
Nasika bhushani -raga alapana.

I then came out at 8.55, as i had another enagaement to go see Indiana Jones !

Only onde observation: nowadays Malladi brothers' performance to my scheme of things is too loud. They handle the raga well and the songs are renedered neatly. But overall something is missing.

I seemed to like them when they were not so popular.

Thyagaraja Palayaasu is in goula.

the song in begada was Evera kuladanamu and not lokavana chatura.

The Nasikabhushani alapana was most excellent and the kriti sung was Dikshitar's "Sri rama saraswathi sevitha"

dEvaghAndAri aalApanA had some glimpses of sahAnA.

Some years back, it was Hyd Brothers, till recently it was Malladi Bros who hv been taken over by Rudrapatnam Bros as far popularity and more concerts concerned.
