Sriranjani presented an energetic and mellifluous concert at Ramana kendra on Friday ably supportted by Akkarai Swarnalatha and Mannargudi Subramanian, Here is the song list:

1. Tamizh Slokam, Hamsadvani
2. Eranapai, Todi
3. Viruttam (Kadalaagi kasindhu kanneer malga), Vachaspathi,
4. Paratpara, Vachaspathi, Adi, Sivan
5. Sri parvathi parameshwarau, Bowli, Adi, Dikshitar
6. Kalyani, Himadri suthe pahimam, Rupaka, Syama
7. Kiravani, Vananai mathi soodiya maindanai, Misra chapu, Thevaram
8. Thani
9. Kavi chindu (kili something)
10. Tillana, Rageshree, Adi, Swathi

First impressions (being the first concert of this artiste that I was able to attend):

1. Sriranjani has a robust voice that delivers the melodies with gusto. Right from the opening varnam, one could
sense the involvement in her singing.

2. For her young age (teens?) she is quite adept in all facets of the music including laya

3. Her body language and general style is very similar to her father Vid. Neyveli Santhanagoplan, and with hard work, I hope she will be able to reach his bhava and sowkhyam laden style of singing.

4. Mannargudi Subramanian's accompaniment was crisp and anticipatory. Would definitely like to see him accompanying more artists.

Thanks, Suresh.
9: Was a kiLik kaNNi, perhaps--another folk form for songs like kAvaDic cindu. Could have been vaLLik kaNavan pErai or bArati's nenjil uramum inRi or something else.

Most of the items are in praise of sivan... any thing special?

Good to hear about her progress...I am sure she will carry forward her father's lofty tradition...

Lofty tradition, Vijay, I hope you mean aesthetic tradition, bhava laden tradition, classical tradition, lofty, I dont think so.

The 'aesthetic tradition, bhAvA-laden tradition and classical tradition' that you speak about certainly mean the same as 'lofty' in one of the word's meaning: elevated in quality and style...

I think appu is taking the "elitist" connotation of lofty :-)
