I know that some other topics have been based on Varali, but I have a specific question.
It's well known that according to some "legend", the teacher-student relation becomes strained once the teacher teaches a song in Varali to the student. Does this "legend" apply to just the raga Varali, or to other ragas such as Shubapantuvarali, Kokilavarali, Punnagavarali, Nagavarali, etc? I was just curious about this.
ragas ending with Varali

I have heard Prof. Govinda Rao teaching Varali -Pancharatna -in AIR.Saint Thyagaraja would not have composed if he had reason to acknowledge it to be a myth. The ratna symbolises the Saint's dharshan of Rama with evidences (..vadu sakshi...Kailasa sadanudu sakshi...)..
*There was a mention of Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer (remember it is narrated on the inlay card of CD on pancharatna rendered by M/S Sanjay/TMKrishna)keeping a screen or barrier in between to seperate him from students learning Varali Pancharatna.-as an antidote.
when we hear Seshachala nayakam--SSi &from VS recently in TTD.,
Mamava Meenakshi- neraval Shyame Sankari -SSi -
maragatha Manivarna-Ramnad Krishnan.
Etijanma -DKP.
we wonder how the rich kritis on this raga could have been passed on to the generations of the sishyaparampara /music world if the vaggeyakaras/teachers had believed in such stigmas and encouraged such believes.
It is also relevant to recall when Smt.R.Vedavalli did a Lec-Dem long ago in Indian Fine Arts-While she made each navagraha kriti to be rendered by her students by turns, she volunteered to render Diwakara tanujam-Sani vara kriti herself( to break the myth that singing of kriti may spell trouble).
LET US GET ALONG QUELLING THE INHIBITIONS to LEARNING AND PROPAGATION OF WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT AS DEMONSTRATED BY MAHANUBHAVAS.
