Thanks Braindrain for the list,
This was truly an excellent chamber concert by Vedavalli Mami. The first 2 songs were just a warm up. (Infact Mami requested the audience right after the 1st song not to clap for everything !) But from Harikambhoji she was in amazing form. The Purvikalyani she sang was divine and so also the alapana of Dwijavanti. Chetashri was like the smooth flowing Cauvery.
Shanmukpriya Alapana was truly GRAND followed by the Tanam in the 4 ragas. The concert lasted 3 hrs plus and not one person among the 100 or so moved during the concert, (expect when there was a brief spell of rain during Shanmukhapriya and people in the terrace garden had to squeeze into the room ! )
Sumithra and Sumathi supported Mami ably. Infact Sumithra also sang a portion of the raga Alapana for Purvikalyani very well.
Charulatha deserves the best compliments for her excellent accompaniment and her raga alapanas were truly out of the world. Anoor (Shivu as he is also known) is a top drawer Mridanga Vidwan and his tani was appreciated by one and all including Vedavalli Mami.
Thanks to Prakash and Srividya for arranging such a lovely evening for us on a Sunday and also for the delicious dinner thereafter
