Nice SSI concert list!!! Just two raga alapanas for yadukula kambodi and keeravani?

Please share if you have more details on how the concert went..

Thanks Prashant :)

I was just curious to know if the tillana in Sankarabharanam, was it by Poochi or Ramnad. How does the Thillana begin?

The pallavi was in tishra jhampa (2 kaLai), There were 4 alapanas - Yadukula kambhoji, Kalyani and Keeravani. Devagandhari was a short one. A very classical, memorable concert - a true respectful, homage to his Guru.

3 chowka kala kritis - diwAkara, pAhi tArakshu, vadAnyEshwaram back to back, but NOT ONCE did the concert sag. Awesome raga alapana and tAnam in kIravANi. Kudos to Krishna and the entire team for a trip down memory lane.

If a student can sing like this, imagine how the Guru's programmes would have been - live?

Well it was an amazing concert...I should say that the Yadukula Kamboji and Kalyani were too good...Just to add, vadAnyEshwaram was the last krithi that TMK learnt from SSI...The only disappointing thing was the RTP, though as usual his Tanam was up to the mark...The RTP was hardly for 15 mins...I always wondered why artists take up RTP when they can't accomodate it....In fact TMK had one hour to go..And he could have sung an eloborate one...No issues with regards to the overall concert....An awesome concert after a long time...The hall was almost full considering it was raining heavily...The scene was the same till he sang the Mangalam...What can one say about the accompanists...They were also charged up for the occassion and were very good...

Great concert - but for a brief spell during the Hamsadhwani swaras and the somehwat flashy rendition of Marubalka, it was a mature yet passionate performance. Alaapana and Neraval in Kalyani and swaras in Y-kambhoji really stood out. Apart from SSI's memory, the concert was special for me because I first TMK's talent was revealed to me at the same venue back in 2000 - I think he sang Viribhoni and a main piece in Sankarabharanam. It is heartening to think that the Artiste's musical growth has more than kept pace with my own musical tastes between then and now...

Good to chat up with Prashant and many others in the canteen before the concert, not to forget sampling the canteen fare! The music circle in Mumbai seems to be as warm and cozy as Shanmukha's degree coffee! One of the great venues of Carnatic Music...

mArubalkA was so much fun, though! :-) The whole team just had a blast through that piece which was a 'stand up and be counted' request from an octogenarian rasika in the 1st row, and the enthu level was just awesome...

vadAnyEshwaram was the last krithi that Sri TMK learnt, and the first krithi Sri Shriramkumar learnt from Sri SSI!

The pATantaram of this song that Sri SSI showcased and polished is just incredible. The lines 'pashupAshamOCanam trilOCanam', 'pashupatim jnAnAmbikApatim' and 'sadArCitam vinata vidhi mukundam' are just so deep with the essence of dEvagAndhAri...
