Did anybody have a chance to attend the Performance of Shri. Raja Rao in a New Role at Narada Gana Sabha yesterday??

Did you mean his role as a vocalist or as an organiser ?

As far as I know, Srimushnam Rajarao is not new to the organizing world (he is basically an honorary committee member at half the sabhas across Madras, and helps fix the Cleveland Thyagaraja aradhana schedule, as well as the Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja aradhana schedule every year).

So you probably meant is vocal performance right? Even here he has given many public vocal performances, and sings at home quite regularly, especially during poojas and special functions.

Anyway, can someone give a review of the concert if they attended? Thanks.

O yes,his thillanas are classic compositions with lot of kanakus etc.I have heard two of his in Behag and Hamsanandi ragams.He has learnt under Sri Papanamsivam directly and hence his patntharams are solid and with his mdgm background he is a Great Alrounder.

I agree - I once attanded his LD and was very impressed by his music. Of course his PJs are a different matter!

Besides above mentioned talents srimushnam is a very good orator too. He spoke for 20 mints including thanks giving. Few excerpts from his speech. He is not quite convinced as regards to teaching / learning through casettes, c ds and internet. The present day sishyas are quite reluctant to pay dakshina to their gurus . Even during vijaya dasami day gurus are denied the extra bonus offered to them as spl dakshina. He dragged PSN on this issue and he refused to comment on this. Giridas swamyji from an unknown destination is closely monitoring this function and definitely will appear once again to bless the deovotees.
His introduction of the receipients of the awards was quite apt.
Bombay sisters were the first to sit on the counter of inaugural function of the SGSangeet Sammelan at thennangur during 1985 with sandhana kinnam and panneer sombu . Their service to CM is great . The mukthambaram trust instituted by them in the memory of their parents encourages all talented youngsters by sponsoring them to various sabhas.. This year they receive this award that gives him pleasure.
Initially PSN also spoke few words about all the award winning artistes. In fact he was happy in his sisters getting this sangeetha sreshta title. Instead of 4 awards this year it is 5 since it is shared by BB sisters . TVG also praised the awardees.
Sangeetha mani title was confirred on Vidwan Nagai soundarajan a ghatam vidwan.[ in my childhood i have seen him practicing mirudangam along with one shri Narayanasamy naidu in a perumal temple at thanjavoor] He was a mirudungam player too. He has been regularly conducting thyagaraja festival in his house every year with out expecting financial assistance from anybody. This is unique since a mirudangam player is conducting thyagaraja festival. He can play almost all purcussion instruments including morsing. He has many desciples in and abroad.
Smt Radha sundaresan is an AIR artiste and has trained many sishyas. A very humble and noble personality.
shri A S Ramanathan a native of Chidambaram was taken away to ceylon [ kilappi kondu poi vittargal]
His tenure at ceylon produced lot of sishyas all around the world . He has trained many vidwans and most of them are abroad.
while thanks giving Srimushnam did not leave even a single person who were assisisting him in the smooth conduct of the function. He mentioned even the name of Mike man and light boy for their sincere cooperation.
srimushnam's invocation song of devarnama in atana was excellent.

BTW, Shri Raja Rao's son, Raghavendra is a talented youngster. Has he ascended the concert platform? I have seen him in some TV music competitions.

Yes Raghvendra has started performing.In fact both father and son gave a concert on 3rd(i suppose)at NGS.RR too performed couple of days back at KGS.Have heard him.Good talent.
