Prashant,
With a flood of threads, I lost track of this one! Thanks to rajeeram, she helped me find it.
I enjoyed listening to your surTTi (suraTi). The prolonged tani curtailed your RTP time and yet you sang it very well, in your pleasing voice. You have the added asset of loving what you sing and it shows in spite of your feeling under the weather. We do look forward to listening to you in Chennai with Ram. Bonne chance!

Prashant, I also enjoyed your bhava-laden Surutti alapana. And you executed the pallavi very well too. Thanks for sharing!

hey prashant sorry for the late post but amazing concert ......infact amazing is a small word....the pallavi was awesome. Loved the way you managed all the aspects of the pallavi perfectly in 25 minutes.....and of course the other songs were also very nice including those new pieces you sang.... (new for me atleast...talking of annai janaki and the tamiz slokam u sang...) please inform further concerts ....
cheers

Prashant : Listened to your Surutti today . A good one ! defintely some of the upcoming artists can learn from your presentation which though short gave a complete coverage to all aspects of RTP

I would be in Mumbai from the 3rd - 7th Oct - Any of your concerts scheduled in these days ?
Also interested to know what are the other kutcheries during this time in Shanmukhananda, Fine Arts and other places.

Thanks in Advance

Prashant, you had a short time for the pallavi, but produced a very crisp and wholesome rendition! Congratulations. I especially enjoyed the last few minutes of the alapanai, which were really beautiful.

Thanks vignesh, venkatr and bilahari for your kind comments. Nice of you to listen.

I will be singing a 1.5 hour concert for the Navaratri celebrations at my neighborhood temple, Uttam Ganesh Mandir, Uttam Society, Chembur, on October 3. The concert is due to commence at 7:30 PM and the accompanying artistes are Sri Narayan Parthasarathi - Violin and Sri Sridhar Parthasarathi - Mridangam.

As part of navarathri functions, Saipriya Viswanathan is performing on the veena with her disciple at the South Indian Bhajan Samaj, Matunga on Sep 30. I think its late at 8 PM..Rasikas welcome...More concerts during Navaratri...I would be able to attend only during the weekend...

Huh? What about the the concert with Ram that was being planned? I haven't missed the season for 7 years I think! Will take something really dire to make me miss it...

Shankarabharanam could you post the list of concerts during Navaratri?

Prashant,
What a disappointment! We were so looking forward to your concert and your being in Chennai for the season. It is only September--hope the scenario changes when the season draws closer...

Vijay and arasi: yes, missing the season is a disappointment. With my whole family traveling to the US, someone has to be around to look after my pATi. I don't consider it having drawn the short straw since I'm not very keen on reliving those Boston winters! :)

Well I guess that's quite understandable...pity we won't be having the planned concert then....

However, there is another possibility - during the Novemberfest/Sangeethothsav period which is almost like a mini season and quite a varied fare too...I am certainly planning to be in Chennai for a few days during that time depending on the schedules...

Thanks Shankarabharanam. The list is quite decent - quite a few emerging talents there along with some established names. Could anyone provide the website addresses of the prominent sabhas in Mumbai?

Prashant,
Proud of you!
I am debating between Mukhari and yadukula khAmbOji (you didn't choose my favorite song, though!). A refreshing choice of songs there. I use the expression 'choice' because the other word is taboo in the present climate :)

Thanks, arasi! Your favorite song requires a lot more work before it can be sung in a concert. Soon, I promise!!! :)

Prashant,
Agreed. The tALam was a 'killer' for me when I was a little girl and knowing my impairment in that department, you might guess that it still is! Yet, even thinking of the beauty of the song bowls me over...

Sorry bilahari. I would have been happy to share my amateur attempt, but my mp3 recorder was placed a little too close to the mridangam and in essence the recording is a 1.5 hour tani. Not a problem, considering the vidvat of my friend Sri Sridhar Parthasarathi :), but it will hardly serve the purpose. I will see if I can clean it up a bit and post something in due time.

No offense to the mrudangam artiste, but I cannot stomach a 1.5 hr thani!

These kinds of 'incidents' give rise to some unexpected benefits and results. In fact, I have been wanting to hear how a mridangam playing sounds as it is played for a song in contrast to a thani. If your singing is audible that is great as well. So Prashant, if you can clean it up, that is great as well but please share the recording as is, if you do not mind ( for a song or two initially )

VK, that is a good obsevation/suggestion. I have heard our music teacher say that when you hear some of the 'mridangam greats' you can actually hear the song.
Prashant, pl. do post the tape, if possible. Thanks.

Could someone kindly tell me about the concerts in Mumbai during the Maargazhi month coinciding with the Madras Music Festival? I have college vacations then and would really like to attend a couple of concerts.

I think Ranjani Gayatri, Gayatri Venkatraghavan are performing at Shanmukhananda, Sion. But these concerts are preceded by an award function, so surely the concerts would be for one and half hr. U Srinivas is also playing as part of Paramacharya sangeethanjali that is held every year...As such you don't have many concerts in Mumbai that time since most of the artists are busy with their concerts in Chennai...Come January and February, you find most of them performing in Mumbai

If you have leave, Srikanth, my suggestion is that you get yourself booked on a ticket to Chennai - I can assure you that you will hear more than just a couple of concerts!

Vignesh, I am not sure as of now as the schedule isn't released..As of now I am gearing up for the season..Would be there in the last week of December coinciding with the Christmas...Planning to attend Sanjay Subrahmanyam's concert the same evening at the kGS...Adding to the Mumbai concert, we have seen that once the season extravaganza is done, many artist do come to Mumbai from the second week of Jan and then we have Fine Arts festival..I will keep everyone posted as when i get details...
