I think you are talking about SrOtaswini, a janya of kIravANI, it has kAkali nishAda and the scale is same as that of suddha danyasi.

The rag is called Srothasvini a janya of 21st mela having the arohana and avarohana SGMPNS SNPMGS. This rag is having lot of similarity with that of rag Patdeep, may be because of the same arohana notes for both these ragas. I recollect an incident 3years back, when I happened to listen the Katchery of Sri. Madurai G.S. Mani, where he gave an unforgettable alapana of this ragam followed by a beautiful composition(I think his own composition). At the end of the programme I asked him if that song was in the Rag Patdeep. He told that it is rag Srothasvini, a janya of 21st mela. I do not remember the particular song now.

When R2 is added to the avarohana this rag sounds almost like Patdeep.

I thought Shudda Dhanyasi with a kakali nishadam was udayaravichandrika, as used by Shri Dikshitar in his guruguha vibhakthi kriti, Shri guruguha murte...

It most certainly is udayaravicandrika of dIkshitar school - whose name apparently got eclipsed by the use of it for suddha-dhanyasi of Tyagaraja school prompting people to rechristen it has Srothasvani.

I guess in the past (i.e. tyagaraja's time) the name udayaravichandrika was used for both sgmpn3s as well as sgmpn2s. Or some people later got confused and started calling entanErchina as in udayaravichandrika..

There is historical evidence to indicate that sgmpn3s was called udayaravichandrika. Not sure if the same applied for sgmpn2s also.
