This concert was part of veteren's series that SKGS is conducting for the past 6 + months.
Despite hearing many concerts and each of us posting reviews for close to 5 years , CM just has more and more krithis that are still untouched by many .ThanjAvur sankara Iyer certainly an extraordinary vaggeyakkarA gave a glimpse of how many krithis are yet not sung by many, and with his usual humility he avoiding lot of his own krithis was a definite great treat for the few rasikas numbering 50 plus in SKGS.
Start was assertive with a rare mOhanam with a great azhuttam in swaras where TSI got the right speed of either not fast or too slow pace of mOhanam. Continued with another alApani just to confuse me if he is singing a poorna chandrikA or a jana ranjani and out popped a beautiful jaNaranjani in a nAdaswara bAni style of T's smaranE sukhamA.
Love this sub main bhairavi upachAramu cESE where the piDI of TSI's bhairavi was elegant with a beautiful rendition of the krithi . Swaras were measured and quick. The big main was a eTula brOtuvO , certainly I personally love this rAgam chakrAvakham , barring a somewhat shaky neraval , the rendition was very good.
TSI spoke for just few seconds explaining the jujAvali was sadguru's thyagarAja's interest in western tune , jujAvali was just ok. The tani main was a soothing kalyAni,I liked this number a lot certainly did not sag that much as a typical kalyAni. The intent of keezh kAlam tOdi was touched upon by TSI in a next rare number , certainly found it too difficult to hear his krithi rendition, possibly his age did not allow him to deliver his todi despite his intent.
kAnaDA was quite nice with a rare krithi of subbarAya sastri?? . There was a listener's request of shAntamu leKhA in shyamA and TSI sang it immediately. Atlast his fist masterpiece in vishnupriya came up and he rendered it very well repeating few phrases more time perhaps emphasising sAhitya anubhavam in bAlasubrahmanyam.
A brilliant rendition of dwijAvanti slOkham followed by semmangudi famous tukkada kElathi mama hridaya , though the rAga was not AthANa but in the same dwijAvanti . The thirruppugazh was bit too fast in Anandabhairavi .Out of all tukkadas the best was this rare lullaby filled rAga ,the lines were strange for a neelAmbari "mALai madhiyamum"and it was an excellent number that was followed by a thevAram?? "neeril servathO".
There was one last number where he rendered his famous mannaDirkku ugaNdhatu.His nice sindhubhairavi roller coaster ride ended with another roller coaster where he sang alApanai in madhyamAvati and sowrAshtram and followed with a leisurely pavamAna and another round of alApanai of madhyamAVati. One never knows how TSI ends his concert , as I was expecting possibly another krithi in madhyamAvati .

The support by Sankar and another youngster was very measured and apt .SrirAm' violin bowing was very good , he certainly used his time which was liberally given by TSI. Both easwaran and vAsan played beautifully , but however their tani was not that great.
In short this concert was a trademark TSI concert where he never knows any number that he is possibly going to sing till that moment. He possibly never plans for which sung he has to do a neraval or a swaram or an alApanai . A very gutsy and a supremely confident vageyakkara + singer

He sang venkataramana gOvindA and not venkaTaramaNa pankaja caraNa , not sure if there was any line like pankaja caraNa. Can you cross check if there is a phrase govindA in the Shivan's composition, possibly TSI added a line gOvindA along with venkaTaramaNa, just as a punch line .Thanks for your other corrections, atlast posting a song list where LJi is making few corrections
