The music lovers of the Dallas Fort Worth community could not have asked for anything better - a beautiful autumn day outside complementing the aura inside the DFW Hindu Temple - Ekta Mandir. At the temple the Skandha Shashti celebrations reached its divine climax with the pomp and grandeur of Valli Kalyaanam. It was with this ethereal backdrop and an almost life-size picture of Sri. Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi (OVK) that the OVK Aradhana, the first of its kind to be held in the Americas was scheduled by the organizers Smt. Vasundhara Kikkeri and Sri S.P. Krishna Murthy, on behalf of Nadopasana, IFCM and IFVA. The program started at 1:30 PM and lasted for about 5 hours. It was heartwarming to see both attendance and participation exceed expectations.
The program was inaugurated by Vidushi. Smt. Lalitha Seshadri, a senior disciple of Semmangudi Sri. Srinivasa Iyer and Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna. Addressing a gathering of over 100 music lovers, Smt. Seshadri highlighted Venkata Kavi’s lyrical and rhythmic mastery in his compositions and also acknowledged the relentless pursuit of Chitravina Sri. N. Ravikiran in popularizing the compositions of this great musician saint. It was a perfect coincidence and could not have been more appropriate that Smt. Kikkeri presented Smt. Seshadri with Sri. Ravikiran’s book entitled "OVK’s Kamakshi Navavarnams and Saptharatnas."
